150 Gallon Build Thread

Nice video. Now i want an iphone4! You've got some nice sized colonies in your tank and that Moorish idol is pretty cool. I see the clowns have grown nicely too.

The moorish idol is full of personality. It'll come up to the glass and beg for food when I'm there looking in - you can see him/her going back and forth in front of my camera in the movie. I hope it does well long term - it eats like a pig, everything I can feed it, so I'm crossing my fingers.

The clowns are doing nicely. They host in that aussie duncan there, and rarely go anywhere else in the tank. I'm curious to see if they spawn there eventually.

Every time I change the water in my tank, I get stung by something..

Changing water for me also involves manually removing as much of the cauplra that I can, and I think it's probably something living amongst the algae that I'm pulling out with my fingers. I changed water yesterday, and now today on several of my fingers I've got tender little bumps - not really painful - but sort of feels like there's a tiny little spine in my finger.

I wonder if bristle worms are to blame? I've got a good population of those in the tank, but I do attempt to steer clear of them as much as I can.

I hope I don't some day become allergic to whatever this is.. it happens nearly every week. You'd think I'd just wear gloves...

I thought I'd post some photos of my German Blue Montipora garden. I //really// need to get rid of these frags!!!!

I found a huge bristle worm in my sump tonight while I was pruning the macro down there.

I'm not sure if this is a worm.. or a snake!

Either way, they taste like chicken :jester:

Cool Montis. Be glad to take some off your hands but i'm closer to Reno than Vegas.

I'll just trust you that they taste like chicken!

PM me if you're ever down here near Vegas, I'd be happy to trade frags or something. These things are slowly taking over my tank! They grow like weeds, from the most teensy tiny little frag... and then of course I can't bare to let them just die rolling around on the sand.. and well, here we are.

I got a pair of tiny blueline angels today from LiveAquaria.com...

Here's some photos of my new duo.. including some of the mystery "white stuff" near the ones gills. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated! They're in my frag tank at the moment, but it'd be pretty easy to remove the frags for meds if needed.

Yes, they're really very nice at that store. I buy most of my fish online though, since that store doesn't have a very good selection.

I'm going back there next weekend though in order to have a hood made for my tank. One of my anthias jumped this last week =\

I also am having a heck of a time with the baby bluelines. Both seem to have perished. I couldn't get them reliably eating anything. I think it may have been stress in the QT tank since it's not as constant of a temperature. Boo :( My first actual non-jumping fish loss.

In other news, my Moorish Idol is now in the QT tank with meds. It had a big, bloody, "eaten away" chunk down one of it's sides. After a week with antibacterials it's looking MUCH better, and eating practically out of my hand like normal. I hope to get it back into the display this coming week. It's easily my favorite fish that I've got - such a great personality.. it's like a little dog!

I'm also considering how to best set up a proper frag tank. I don't want another glass tank - so I was going to go with a Rubbermaid Stock Tank instead. I figure, stock tank, skimmer (placed in the tank itself), Dart pump or similar for flow on a closed loop. I'll use my 250 watt metal halide for light. Anyone see any issues there?

Something along the lines of..

congrats on a job well done!
all thing look like you will be smiling and styling!

the pics you posted are

1. limpet
2. byrazoan community
3. algae (which one), such a good sign on fresh live rock

the rock looks well cared for and full of life- score

I love the powermodule - though at times I wish I had gotten the Geisman metal halide + t5 fixture instead. They're both wonderful fixtures... the T5's put out a lot less heat though, in Las Vegas we run our AC so much already that probably helps my bill some.

How are you doing with lps with the ati pm? Why don't I see the white sticky tabs in your tank from the vortechs?

Here's a full tank shot, since I have neglected this thread =p

I don't see the stickers because I put them on the tank at the very top, where you're not looking:

It's hard to see, but I aligned them with the top of the tank.

I'll take some more photos and get some updated shots here...

I should have paid better attention. I didn't notice till I looked in the tank, then it was too late. I can't get them off but will try a bigger blade. your tank looks great and I see your lps look fine. It helped block light when I covered the top too.
