150W HQI setup, bulb debate

Hello,

I have recently returned to the hooby after a 10 year break. I have a Giesemann 230 system = 150W HQI with 2 T-5 pure actinics.

I purchased from frags from a guy in my reef club, A tyree flower petal montipora, A Tyree blue chalice and a couple of others.

After a week the colors are fading on these two corals. PAR readings are similar from his tank to mine. I moved the chalice lower as it was turning more brown. The biggest difference is he is running 250W 20K bulbs and i am running 150W 14K bulb. The bulb is a geisemann megachrome. I also have a spare Phoenix Blue I could install.

Would a 20K provide the better color? I see that Radium makes a 150W HQI bulb in 20K. Are these any good?

The tank is a 16" deep 24" Cube Par readings are 150ish at the sand to 400+ in 2" of water. The light lense is 8" from the water.

I am not sure what type of ballast the Giesemann is. Does anyone here?

Thanks in advance.

Chris
