170 gallon upgrade.

Hey everyone.

I just recently took my old tank down and am getting ready for a new setup.

My old setup
75 gallon top tank
30 lbs or fiji rock
45 gallon sump
ASM g4 skimmer
2 175 watt 10k halides 1 175 watt 20k halide and 2 Vho actinics
Quiet one 9000 return

This tank was strugling due to me getting in a hurry to set it up.

My new Set up will be a 48Lx36Tx24D 170 gallon with starphire glass. from the guys at glass cages.

i was goging to try to run my old lighting?? not sure if it will be enoughbut that depends on what i decide to do with the tank.

i was also going to have the tank drilled "3 holes in the bottom" to do a recirculation pump little giant probably.

Any thoughts on this would be great i will post pics as my project begins

do some research on RC, a lot of people have bad experience with glass cages.

the 36" tall??? how are you going to reach the bottom??? 36" need at least 400W, 175 is not going to work.

I hope you mean 36" deep, and 24" tall. Even with that, the 175 halides won't work. you'd need 250w.

i have friend that bought a tank from glass cages and it was very nice. but i will check them other guys out . and it is 35" tall the widest i can go is 4 ft and the deepest it can be is 2 ft because it is an in wall tank.
So all i have to play with is height. and i want as big a tank as i can fit..ya know?

as far as lighting that should work for a fowl tank?

If just fish and no coral, it will work. But I think you *may* get the itch later to stock coral, so you might want to upgrade the lighting now.

Will you be able to clean your tank with it that tall?

ya cleaning it and working in it will be no problem . and thats true about the coral itch i know many who have fallen to it.
this maybe extreme but i built a plywood box to the tanks specs an put it in the wall to check everything haha.

so what do you think i should go with all 250 watt? all 10k or 20k?

i am goging to do a closed loop and have the bottom driller then plumb my rock to hide it. do you think this is wise?
