180 relocation project

I was thinking about that. Setting up a holding area. Thurge, sorry I can not remember your name, THanks for the offer on the tubs. Might have to ask for those. Just use then as transport. I want to etup some BIG containers to hold some water. Only have so many heaters and pumps. The sand is a big thing. I would like to reuse the old sand for money purposes. I might just scoop the top layer off and rinse the bottom layer. I will see if I can get a deal on some sand from somebody in town and buy like 90 pounds. I need to buy the trough first. I just bought the lumber to rebuild a completely new stand. I know that makes no sense. lol I can not wait to sell my house. lol

yeah let me know, next sat. should work as far as I know. If its more convenient to have buckets and stuff before the move day maybe I could drop off 2 trash cans and a couple buckets at scotts store earlier this week.
Ditto on the sand issue, I wish I would have simply scooped a bit off the top and junked the rest, my tank was inplace for around 5 years and I had serious amount of detritus in there, it all got stirred up, killed a few really nice corals I had, and led to bad algae problems I believe.
I would buy 2 bags, scott can get the 40 lb ones for $20 -$30 something . And seed that with 20 lbs or so of your old sand. Then slowly add more, I added an inch or so every week to my system till I had the right amount. The tank will look new for a while anyway, and will still take time to look like it does now anyway so i say live with a shallower bed and slowly build it up to be safe and not lose any corals.
When you dump the old sand into the new tank thats when the stuff stirs up and can smother corals.
I use a piece of 4" pvc cut so it barely sticks out of the water, and touches the sand on the bottom. Dump sand into that and slowly pull it up once in a while to distribute the sand out. This way you really dont get much cloud, and may work with old sand I havent tried that though, just tried it with new rinsed sand.

HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!! Did not even notice that. Thanks. Yeah I think next Saturday. If I do not have it all by then. I am "planning on just moving little bit at a time. I am hard headed and will probably move the tank myself with a dollie. Macho man. lol I moved a 72 bow front up two flights of stairs by myself and the stand. lol My Granma always yells at me. Like when I rode my dirt bike a month after back surgery and I was cutting down tree limbs. My stupidity will never stop.

I tried a couple times. Works much better then dumping it in. I am planning on running the tank a couple of days with just the sand and rock in it.

And you wonder why you had back surgery1!!!!!! I did the same, with my 125 but I had help. The 55 on the other hand, I moved my self and thought for two days that I had busted a seal on it!!!!

did you get the trough?

Does anyone have office space's phone number?? I just reread the thread and forgot about what Paul said about office space having some troughs.

That is pretty sweet. Eric can build me something similiar for cheaper though. I still need a sump. I need to go look at troughs and actually price them out. Then I will see if I will have Eric build me one.

Scott is the man btw. He filled for me a 180 to hold all my stuff while I am moving my stuff. No charge. How sweet is that?? Awesome guy. He just got some ORA frags in today too and ordering more Friday. I ca not wait to see them in person. The pics over in the SPS forum of those pieces are awesome.

I saw your stuff down at scotts, yeah he is da man.
so the tank wont be moved this weekend?
BTW the ORA stuff was cool, some guy came in and bought most of it right as scott unpacked :( I cant wait till he gets the next batch in from ORA.

He was selling more than the sump, he had a trough for sale too, as well as some trash cans for water.

100 Gallon Rubbermaid fuge. Drilled for 2 1" bulkheads. $70 for Fuge only. This item is too big to ship, but I would be willing to drive within reason and meet the buyer after discussing delivery options:

Lets see, an update. I hope to pick up my rubbermaid sump and cans this weekend. I am trying to finish my floors at my old place while doing this whole relocation. FUN!!! I have my tank back at the new house now that Little Eric helped me get the scratches out. Should have seen him sitting inside the tank lol. Thanks for all the help Eric. Your the man. I broke a bulkhead, but happened to come across one that I had from TJ. Wow so many Thank you's here. Thanks TJ. I still want to come down when i am not so busy and broke and see your store. I need to modify the stand and possibly wall to accomadate the bulkheads. Since my tank is a little different with the overflow on the short side. Think that is about it. Oh I killed all my live rock some how too. Luckily I have some rock at Scotts to help seed my dead stuff now. All I can think of for now.
