I am on the same boat. I've done a lot of research and i think i will go with SWC 250 1A. I don't want to keep upgrading and i've read a lot of good things about the SWC 250 1A. Right now, they're going for 750.
I had a 180 with 6 blue headed jawfish...with a DSB and tons of live rock rubble for them. They like shells and rubble and mixed degrees of grain size.
I run an ASM G3 on my 180 Display. Including sump its about 200 gal of water volume. I have 15 fish and lots of SPS coral. Ive always had good results with that skimmer.
I didn't realize so many people still use ASM skimmers? I thought they went out with bellbottoms. :fun4: Not knockin, just sayin. :jester:
Oh and I LOVE my SWC-300A. I had a MSX-250 on my 180 and hated it. The Sicce pumps weren't for me...the Askoll on my MSX is wonderful. I can't even tell when it's on versus when it isn't. (the tank is still being put together so the skimmer isn't on 24/7) The best bang for the buck I guess USED TO BE the ASM, but now it's the SWC line. SWC blows the ASM away.
I have an ASM G4X with the gate, recirculating, mesh mod on my 220 and its awesome!! Also have a 100gal refugium with a DSB. Always have rock solid parameters. Heavy on the fish side.
Thanks again to the people responding...a new skimmer budget has been started...lol.
TampaReefer79,
Do you have any pictures of your tank or your aqua-scaping you had with 6 jawfish. What other fish did you have? I was hoping I could at least have two...I love how they are busy bodies and add so much character to a tank. 180 is empty right now but i am trying to plan out how everything will be ( fish, equipment, etc) before I tear down my basement wall.
