is it possible to have one black and white clownfish and then add a pair later on? so in the end I will be ending up with you. I also have no anemones for them to host.

okay... a little confused as to what you're asking but I'll see if I can clear things up a bit.

depending on the species, pairing up clowns can be more or less difficult. larger (AKA more aggressive) species are harder to pair, smaller tend to be easier (at least from what I've heard). I've only ever had three species- Perculas, Occys (B&W and regular), and a Pink Skunk (never paired that one up though).

IMO, its easier to add both fish at the same time- less stress for you and the fish, IME. if thats not an option, however, then I would choose which one of the pair you want to be female (which one you want to be the bigger one) and then get that one first. When you are ready to get the second, choose a SMALL fish- the smaller they are, the less mature they are, and IME the more quickly they are accepted. AVOID getting a fish that is the same size are your current one, or has been alone for a long time- they will be more likely to be female.
