Does anyone know what this trigger might be? I know the picture is not the best, but its all I had. this fish is going for $2k.

1) triggers turn corals and LR into sand, i wouldnt put one in a reef tank.
2) i personally wouldnt pay $2,000.00 for any fish. ive seen black tangs on www.liveaquaria.com for $3,000.00, my LFS showed me his cost sheet for the exact fish...$800.00!!!

I can't tell from the pic but there were some triggers making the rounds recently that had not been scientifically named yet. They were related to Crosshtach but looked almost identical to the Sargassum Triggers but with an orange tail instead red. They were pretty expensive so I am guessing this is the same fish. IMOP they are not worth the money.

looks to me like a hybrid of a female crosshatch and a sargassum. $2k for that??? Not a chance...go get 4 pairs of crosshatches or 20 sargassums :)

Where did this fish come from? If it was collected in HI which is where I heard they were coming from it is not a hybrid of a Sargassum?

crosshatch and sargassum cannot naturally hybridize they come from different oceans. If you find one let me know i'll give u 50 grand cause its the only one in the world.

may be a albino crosshatch. Prob not but is always a chance.
albinos have no pigment whatsoever. So I would scratch albino off the list. Looks like a faded female crosshatch.

Then again, I keep see the Zapruder Kennedy assassination film cleraer than the photo.

In fact.......that hair algae knoll behind the fish....:D

Xanthichthys and Melichthys triggers don't. Many people successfully keep them in reef tanks with no problems.

sargassms have red tails though... the "red tail triggerfish"

Crosshatches also can have red tails, and more labelled "redtailed trigger" even more often.

Sargassums don't typically have the bright stripe at the base of their fins like this does (and like the Durgons do).

Whatever it is, I'd have a tough time convincing myself to pay $2k for it.
