2.5 gallon setup

I'm thinking about setting up a 2.5 gallon hexagon tank. Do you think it would be a good idea to get some already established sand from somebody I know to put in the bottom to start off. If so, how much would I need for a 2.5 gallon. Also, should I use water from my already established tank to start it off with? I would just get the water from my next water change. Thanks for any suggestions!!!
