2 Dwarf Angels in 65g....Possible?

I have a Flame Angel and would really like to add some yellow to the tank. I would love to add a bicolor angel. How do you think they would get along?

I'd say not too well. flames are pretty feisty fish, and from what I've read so are bicolors, so I would be willing to bet that they would fight often in such an enclosed space, especially if the flame is already established

Your first challenge would be to find a healthy bicolor. I wouldn't buy one without very good info about it being properly collected. Bicolors are among the most likely to eat your corals. And they get too large for a 65g and wouldn't be appropriate even without the flame. They need lots of tlc with QT and acclimation. This is not a fish that should go into a bare tank.

The best option would be to find a juvenile or female flame angel. Also not easy to do, but definitely possible and worth the effort. If you find one and it is also smaller than your existing flame (which it would be if a juvi) then they will almost certainly get along fine. There seems to be a rumor going around that you only need to find a smaller fish, that is not correct. One fish must be smaller, yes but it must also be a female or juvenile.

Hrrmmm...sounds like it would not be the best idea then...even though I have a good amount of swimming room....

I currently have a Flame Angle, 2 Occ Clowns, 2 Firefish, Yellow Watchmen Goby, High Fin Goby. Seems like I have too much orange...lol. I love to add a vibrant yellow, purple, or blue fish. I would love some recommendations.

I have not really been impressed with the wrasses I have seen...but maybe there are some I am not aware of that would fit the bill.

Nice looking tank! If your rock is touching the back your angel would appreciate you moving it so it doesn't except maybe in a couple of places.

Angels appreciate rock to swim in and open water not as much --- even truer for shy ones like bicolors. Have you considered an azure damsel? Fairly peaceful and stunning blue. You have to be careful that you don't get a similar looking aggressive damsel. You can see in this offering from Live Aquaria there are similar ones. But they are easy to distinguish once you've seen the differences. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=15+28

I would think that the Flame has set it's territory by now and wouldn't like to share. +1 on the Bicolor's size. At some point, i would think that at 6" it would be cramped in a tank that size, long term. Maybe rethink the wrasse thing again? or consider the Damsel that Marie is suggesting?

This may come off the wrong way, so please don't take it like I'm god or trying to tell you what to do with your tank, BUT....IMHO, speaking for myself and no one else, I personally wouldn't chose to add a fish or coral solely based off the color it presents. If in my selection process and research happen across a species that "fits" within my tank's overall environment requirements and can co-habitate with everything else I've chosen AND has a cool color I like, then win win.

I've learned in 18 years of reefing that what is the most important, to me, is the long term survivability and health of the animals i chose to keep. I'm not saying that's not foremost in your mind, just stating my opinion on selection. Once again, not meant to put you or anyone else down, Just my two cents worth.

I agree. Compatibility is more important then color. I am just looking for something that fits both.

What about a yellow "coris" wrasse. They are vibrantly colored and great reef citizens. They stay fairly small and would fit in your tank with no problem IMO.

Midas blennies give me a case of the squirrels. Something about the sinewy swimming style just makes me uncomfortable. But everyone loves them!

Actually could work, but the C. bicolor would have to be there *FIRST*.
I have a C. bicolor with a Flameback ( C. acanthops) in my "newer" 60 gallon tank. So far so good. But the Flameback is pretty rough & tumble. The Bicolor is not so much..
