I ordered a Jawfish from my LFS a Green-Sided Jawfish or sometimes called a Variegated Jawfish (Opistognathus solorensis). Been looking for one of these for a few years so when it showed up on my LFS order list couldn't pass it up. He is now in my 150 gallon which includes my Blue Spot Jawfish (BSJ) which I have had for a little over a year.
When I introduced the new fish to the tank, I put him on the far left side of the tank, as my BSJ resides on the right side, I even created a nice burrow for him to take over an remodel as he seen fit. Did not see him for the first few hours after he first went in and went within the rock work, and then the lights went out for the night. Woke up the next morning to see if I could find him with no luck until i looked in the spot I would least expect him, in the burrow with the BSJ.
They have now been sharing the burrow together for two days, absolutely no aggression, neither is showing any signs of stress, both are eating well etc. The burrow that the BSJ has created is under a series of rocks that has 5 or 6different openings that all connect to a common area in the center, can see the set-up quite well by looking up from the bottom of the tank as all of the gravel has been removed from the bottom.
Have had many jawfish over the last 10 years (Pearly, Dusky, Tiger, Ring-Eye, Pastel, Bullseye, and Blue-Spotted) never had a Variegated, and never had two act like this before. Have had jawfish tolerate each other, but never commune together, especially two different species BSJ from the Sea of Cortez, and the Variegated from South East Asia.
Anyone think this will last? Anyone with similar experience?
