2 little fish phosban reactor questions...

For those of you that use the 2 little fish phosban reactors. Do you use the sponges? Just wondering if they are a nitrate sink.

good question because most sponges are. i use mine in there but every time i change the media i wash the sponges very well. good luck

they very well can be depending on how much media is in your reactor and how aften you have to change it. I was just wondring if it can cause a nitrate spike big enough to detect and if so hoping that someone had some experience share.

Never had a nitrate problem with mine. Always wash sponges whenever I change media as well.

Which media do you use with it ?
I would not run Rowaphos with out the sponges.

I can't see a ton of nitrate coming from them, not anymroe than your LR or sand.

I use PURA PhosLock and I do need to use the sponges with it.

I keep the sponge in so the media doesn't blow back into the sump. They will start to get lopsided when they are full of junk

I have used phosban in a phosban reactor for sometime and never have any problems. I feed the phosban reactor from my return side of the sump . I clean them good and reuse at refil.

The sponges are completely submerged so....shouldn't be a problem.
