ihave a 30 gall tank with a cple of sea apple in, i recently got a small golden mantis abou 2 inches long who has been happily living there for a couple of months, she has a nice burrow and eats well. Recently my LFS has got a peacock mantis in and i was wondering if i could keep the 2 is the same tank or would the pcok kill the small golden mantis?
Any help gratefully recieved!

the golden one is probably P. ciliata. a spearer. although we here have often wondered who would win the fight between a spearer and a similar sized smasher, we would never actually do it. so in short, no. one will kill the other.

justin you know who would win that fight lol with a ciliata being an agressive mantis it will most likely try and get the peacock out of the way which i have a feeling might unless all of its power on the poor defenseless ciliata

lol yeah i can easily see how a peacock could get the upper hand but the spearer only really needs to get one spear to the underside to mortally wound the smasher. mind you i dont think anything short of a full grown clown trigger would win against monte.

man, sea apples in a mantis tank kinda sounds like a time bomb.

if the mantis ever wanted to see if the apples were edible, wouldnt the sea apple(s) release enough toxins to wipe everybody out?

yea thats what i was thinkin. i just recently watched a local LFS loose an entire siplay tank to a sea apple in an outtake, coral and everything.

i mean maybe a mantis has the vision to see those bright 'ol colors and just see "DANGER", maybe not.

thats a risk i wouldn't take.

:eek2:
