Say no to clove polyps
I just switched over from dosing baking soda to kalkwasser. I've been testing my tank morning and night and I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary; ph 7.8-8.0, alk 8.23, calcium 420, mag 1300. After 1 day of running kalk most of my corals actually look really nice; many acros, birdsnests, montis, lps, zoas, etc. I have a superman Montipora danae and a brown Montipora digitata that don't look right. Both have polyps retracted and the colors are faded. They are on opposite corners of the tank so I think lighting has nothing to do with it. What do you think could cause it? They both looked great until after the first day of kalk dosing. I'm dosing through my ATO just the same as I did with the baking soda and the parameters haven't changed much since switching to kalk. I'm not using a strong kalk mixture either. Since my tank demand is not that high I'm only mixing up 2 tsp. of kalk in 5 gallons of water. Could it be just a temporary stress like when you change salt brands? Any ideas?
