2 MP40 wet side failures

Hello -

I've been running MP40s on my tank since day one (about four years now) and have had two identical failures on the wet sides of my pumps. See photos attached.

What can I do to prevent this in the future? I clean the algae and stuff off the pumps, but there doesn't appear to be calcified algae built up around the shaft that might cause this.

I don't disassemble them for cleaning, should I be doing that? I feel like these pumps are good enough to last more than a couple years between component failures..

Any ideas? You can see that the base cracks where the shaft goes through, and then the dry side reports the issue and stops running the pump.

I should also point out that these did NOT break at the same time. At least a year between these two. I keep the broken ones for parts.. but since the unit that just broke had an identical failure as one before when I went looking for parts I wanted to call that out.

inktomi,

A wetframe failure is generally a sign of to much magnetic coupling force. I would recommend verifying the pin spacer is set correctly, and feel free contact us directly to check your warranty status.

I will verify the spacing today when I get home. I'm pretty sure these are out of warranty, but I'll dig up my receipts and send them to CS.

Thank you for the idea.

The other failure I've had is a magnet that seemed to rub and overheat itself till it expanded and could not turn anymore. That, too, it seems could be too much force.

I thought they were set properly, but maybe they're right on the edge. I'll check, and maybe try one notch wider.
