I posted a spawning pair of scooters a week or so ago, and a buyer came over. As we were looking at the happy couple, kid you not, the male went from hunting on the rock to swimming up the side of the tank - and then sank to the bottom -dead. We (me and the buyer) had been chatting over the tank and neither of us saw anything unusual. This particular male (the scooter, not the buyer) has been with me for 2 years. He was a tiny little spec when I got him.
Last nite, my 2 coral gobies were happily sitting on their favorite cleaner magnet, and as I watched, one of them drifted off into the current - dead. He had eaten fine about an hour before, and no odd behavior was noted. (he was the solid yellow - I think they call them the okinawan or something like that, not the yellow with marks). In this instance, one of the gobies came in about 6 months ago, the 'old' one I had for, about again, 2 years. They were identical so I don't know if it was the older or newer one that passed away.
The scooter and gobie were in different tanks.
Does anyone know the life expectancy for either of these species of fish? It is freaking me out to have 2 losses of relatively longer term fish kids so suddenly, so relatively close together, and yet in different tanks. If not old age, I am clueless what could have caused this...
The scooter widow is now a harem female for another male and is doing fine. I have no buddy for the gobie at this time. Poor little fishy.
