2 Tunze 6105's Dead?

I have 2 6105s that both kicked the bucket within a couple months, both after moving (1 for cleaning, one for re-positioning). First one was replaced by a backup unit I had, but I don't have a second spare. I have tried these heads with different power supplies, with and without apex and/or tunze controller. They are put together correctly and all consumables appear in good shape- props spin freely. I have 2 others in the tank that are running just fine. These were always kept clean and never run below 32%. I think the wiring or motor is bad- is that a fixable problem or are these toast. And if these are dead, is this a problem with all the 6105's- are the new ones any better?

How old are they? If they are fairly old (the 6105's have been available since 2008), it could just be old age, they do contain internal electronics and the thin film capacitors will usually fail after 6+ years and that is a general weakness of DC pumps. They can be repaired, spare motors are not unreasonable around $115, and in stock. If they are pre 2012 it would be a considerable upgrade as the newest ones include the 7090 controller and the rigid shaft design.

I think they are about 4 years old- pre built in controller though. Is there a way to extend the lifespan of the powerheads- would constant speed help?

Keeping them clean is the main thing that will extend the life, the speeds are not so much of a factor except that off and on use results in more calcium build up so cleaning more frequently becomes more important. The units with the built in 7090 have more safeties to shut down if anything is off and prevent damage from jamming, etc.
