$20 for a 1/2 frag of Tyree neon green toadstool is this too much?

Hi eveyrone,

As some of you know I have been selling alot of my stuff over the last couple weeks because I'm moving out. I haven't gotten any complalaints about the stuff I have sold yet except for one person. He feels like I jipped him on the neon green toadstool. I just want to ask everyone here on the board if selling a 1/2 inch toadstool for $20 is a rip off? He says that the piece was 1/2 inch and that it is dying in his tank. For those that bought the neon toadstool from me you know I fresh cut all of them when you were there. So pretty much he's complaining about a healthy frag that did not do well in his tank. Also my original post for the neon green toadstool was $30 dollars a frag. He asked nicely if he can have it for $20 and I was like ok I kind of knew he was a beginner. I also gave him a blue ricordia for $20 and he was complaining about that as well. I feel like I was being very fair to him already considering I gave him a discount and also considering if he thought the price was too high he never had to buy it from me. There were plenty of folks that came by and saw my dying tank and didn't buy some stuff from me. I'm totally fine with that.

So now I just want to ask everyone who bought stuff from me and who's didn't....did i rip him off? I really don't like people telling me I'm taking advantage of them or I'm ripping them off with my corals. Thanks eveyrone.

James

i'll give you my honest opinion
i got a neon green toadstool for $30 that was around an inch in diameter, and a florida ricordea for $15.
Knowing this, your prices are a little, just a little on the high side, but not LFS level imo. Then again, if your toadstool really is from Tyree, its probably very fairly priced :)

I paid $30 a couple months ago from a fellow reefer for a neon green toadstool and now its trippled in size. I am also a beginner...

Your price is fair and it was their choice to buy it from you....

just my 2 cents..

Dude, the guy went to your house, saw what he was purchasing, paid you and left...It's not like you shipped it to him, then he'd have an excuse of not knowing what he got. The guy is an idiot, regardless of whether or not your prices are "high" or " low".

Was the florida ricordia blue? i know stores sell orange ones for 25 or so and i know blue rics are usually more. And initially blue ric was not for sale but he wanted a piece. i never posted it for sale.

And the thing is the neon toadstool was from Tyree. I got it from him personally a few years back when it was like half an inch in diameter. I don't think I really advertised the neon green to be tyree because I didn't think it mattered. But maybe it does.

dude...you sold him a tyree piece for that price? tell me you have one for me. i agree with ®eefer cause i don't know what the guy is complaining about. he saw the coral IN PERSON (not a picture or anything) so that's completely his decision.

be a man. do the right thing.

I remember when was a newbie and threw a couple of Butterflies in my 55.When they died I went to the LFS and was insistant that they had sold me unhealthy fish.
They kept trying to explain to me that the problem was in my tank.In hindsight they were right. It's probably hard for him to realize that his tank is not yet at optimal conditions. If I were you,I'd just let it roll off my back.

Russel Peters? Guy cracks me up.

I don't know the whole story or the buyers side, but I think if you were honest and upfront, the buyer is just whining.

Toadstool sometime takes as long ast 2-3 weeks to fully opening in a new tank and the fact that its a fresh cut I would say it will take at least that long. $20 for a 1/2 is also going rate so its more then fair. I would also agree that if the buyer picked it up and saw it before he paid he should have nothing to complain about.

Well what the guy pmed me is that he broughth it home, his lfs freinds came to help him and laughed at him because they said he got ripped off. Things is I told him that as well the blue ricordia would look small becuase it has to be acclimated. The ricordias was one inch when I fragged it and I'm pretty sure the toadstool was also bigger than 1/2 inch. I wish I took a pic of it. But yeah I would understand where he is coming from if his lfs friends laughed at him and he felt embarrassed about it. But he used some words describing my ethics and I don't need to take that. I believe the stuff that I was selling was fairly priced if not cheap and usually when the person comes over I still give them a discount.

I would really like to know who those lfs guys are...that they would laugh at a friend because they felt he got ripped off.

i would rather buy tank raised corals and fish then ones imported due to survial rates and such. sometimes these should be even more to that. then add the "tyree name" double the price. i hate to say that tyree corals should not go to beginers. they will never appreciate them.

They do, he'll be happy when it opens. As far as the price, 20 bux for a Neon green toad... your not gonna get it any less than that! Definately reasonable. Some people are never satsified, you priced it, he bought it, end of story. If thinks he got ripped off, he should be mad at himself, not you.

If I didnt already have one, id be driving up this weekend to pick one up @ that price.:)

good luck, Mike:cool:

He came, he saw, he bought. What is the problem? Not like you sent him the wrong pic of the coral or anything. Plus it's only 20 bucks. Don't worry about the whining, it will go away.
