20 gal high sump ideas

I'm looking around to see what has worked really good for people in the past. I'm looking to build one for a 40gal tall project I'm working on. Any ideas would be great! Thanks in Advance!

The long makes a better sump... IMO
more length to work with.. assuming it fits under your stand of course

What do you want/to do in this sump? That will dictate whats needed.

I'm just building one that same size myself. I'm taking my layout from the advanced acrylics sump of the same dimensions.

I'll pass on the filter sock because I'll place a sponge between the last 2 baffles instead. That way I can fit a larger skimmer in the first section and I'll get more organics into the fuge section in the middle. I can rinse the sponge every couple of days and avoid having to bleach filter socks. Just my personal preferences.

We'll in the first section I would like to do a skimmer. The main section I have seen some people doin a "Xenia forest" and that seems to be working good. An then the out pump. I would like to do some trays inbetween the baffels not to have anything there right away but if I need to add carbon or any other type of media like that I wouldn't have to alture the lay out. Does that sound like a good plan or should I change the Xenia forest to just live rubble and add some cheto and call it a day.

Reefvet that seems like a great idea about the sponges. Do you think that would benifet the Xenias is that is the rout I take?
