Great news. Now is a good time to do another set of tests. Post the results. Get close to time for snails/hermits to go in.

is that a biological filter on the back left side?

I assume that's a skimmer intake in the middle back?

If that is a biological filter be sure to take the media out, you really want your biological filtration to be done by the liverock and live sand as much as possible.

The live rock does look pretty good and should be plenty to seed. You'll definately want more eventually but you can get that by picking up some really nice zoanthid rocks and/or muchroom rocks.

Hey Skippy tank is looking good glad to here that you are going to WVU this fall and not Maryland turps suck!!! I go to WVU right now this fall will be my second year and i know you will love it, its the best school on earth. What is you major mine is engineering. Im in the process of moving my tank to Morgantown this weekend its going to be great.

dantodd - yes the filter in the back left is a biological filter it has two filter pads and in the middle i added a carbon filter, yup thats my sea clone in the middle, it actually started skimming last night, and i was so excited being the male i am decided, it could be improved, and now its not makin foam again lol, thatll teach me.

schscounrtyboy - YEA go mounties, thats awsome. i was hopin to meet up with someone on here, im a communications major, also working towards a minor in leadership and inspirational speaking (plans to be a professor), i agree footballs goin to be kick balls. ill definitelly look u up this fall, we can frag together

"the team that frags together, wins together" - GO MOUNTIES!

i have one more question.................
two of my rocks are starting to form dark red almost slime on them, and my buddy has this ALL THROUGH his tank, the stuff has literally taken over and its starting to concern me i noticed it last night.
do i have a PH problem, or is it something else? there just small rocks should i ditch em and get more? or is it not a problem to get rid of and control
i have pics but im gettn ready to walk out the door (Dr.'s App.) but ill post pics as soon as i get home

As always, thanks guys.

sorry the stuff has taken over my buddies tank, and i think its horrible
its just starting to be noticeable in my tank
i read that and it kind of confused me lol

good news Dr. said im still alive (always good)
OKAY just took some tests

Ammonia ----> 0
Nitrite --------> 0
Ph ------------> 7.8
Nitrate ------> 10
Temp --------> 78 - 80

what should i do about this...................

The red stuff could be one or two things. Assuming it is the same stuff that took over your buddies tank it is cyanobacter. Fairly normal to have some during cycle. You may be able to reduce it to some point by cutting back your photoperiod. (There is a slight chance that what you have isn't cyano. If it looks sort of slimy like the cyano but is better attached to the rock and doesn't have edges that sort of wave off the rock it could be a velvety form of coralline algea, very cool stuff but not likely this early.)

You also want to pull the filter pads out of your filter. If the whole filter portion comes off you can actually remove it and just leave the pump portion moving the water around. Adding more circuation can also help keep the cyano in check. Getting another small powerhead is nice especially if it is creating more turbulance to prevent deadspots (low circulation) in the tank.

It is also a good time to add some clean-up crew if you haven't already. They don't usually eat the cyano but they'll clean up the brown/green algae that are on their way.

one more thing.

10ppm is not too bad for nitrates. Don't do a water change until it gets up to 20 or more. you want to let stuff do it's thing for a little while. There is still some stuff on your live rock that is going to die no matter what you do so let it finish its cycle. You are still likely to get more algae blooms but don't worry about it, it should run its course as long as you are patient.

First tell me about your powerfilter? Can the filter part be removed and just use the pump as a powerhead? If not I would pick up 2 powerheads. My wife's 10 has 2 aquaclear 102s. which should be plenty but you have the seaclone dumping into it as well as the powerfilter. I would probably pick up a couple of tiny powerheads. I have 2 made by viaaqua that can be hidden behind LR. Make sure there are no dead spots in the tank, except maybe some low flow areas between rocks or in caves. Might mean you want to stash one behind the liverock down low just high enough to not disturb the sand. You can tak a little bit of the finest sand in your tank and drop it in from the top of the tank and watch how it's blown around.

that would be cyno get some chemie clean that should take care of it just follow the directions to the point don't over do it or you will be starting over...lol that stuff can kill everything..

On a side not are you in communications now?????? I feel sorry for you lol that is they most boring degree on earth lol i had 2 comm classes last semester and i would rather attend a funeral every day lol they suck.

dantodd - yea the whole bottom canister part can be detached and ive taken the media out

schscountryboy - thanks for the advice
yea im in communications now, actually pre communication
i love it, i think its so much fun. so fun infact i want to be a professor of communication once i get my degree :D , then u can call me Dr. Joe lol:D
