i just got a 20 gallon tank setup for free from the in-laws!!! nothing special just stock lighting and powerhead filtration. but it was for FREE!!! i really want to get a false perc. is it okay for me to put 1 in the tank.(how about 2?) I plan to get at least a 55 gallon bowfront in the middle of next year. so he would only be in this tank for maybe a year if not less. will i need a protein skimmer. i know smaller tanks get dirtier faster but how hard would it be to keep it clean with a 20 gallon. i have two seperate powerheads if that makes a difference. also what would be the best anemone to put in it. this will be the only fish (or two?), plus the anemone?, and some cleaners(any recommendations?).....and since this tank is mine now...when i upgrade to the 55 gallon, the 20 will be the sump. thanks for all the help guys. oh and one last thing...oklahomans and texans....what is a good marine fish store to get a "nemo". i just hate knowing that i would be paying at least $23-$30 on shipping alone plus the fish. are their any good LFS in the OK,TX area.

You will not be able to keep a anemone unless you have MH lighting and amasingly good water quality .

I am geting a 20g and will have two clowns with no anemone .Also in 20 gallon you could have a small fish with the 2 clowns.

For a skimmer for a 20 gallon i would go with a
get the one rated 65 gallon.Coralife Super Skimmer

as already stated no anenome lol i have a 20 for my clowns, they share it with a pistol shrimp/goby pair and snails and hermits. i have 35 lbs of live rock and 20 lbs of aragonite. i dont use a skimmer or sump on any of my tanks, i let the LR be my filter but i do use lots of water flow. BTW they have been in there happily for 1 1/2 years now hope that helps you but before you buy anything i think you should curb your enthusiasm and do some more research

20H is ok!

20H is ok!

Here is my 20H with two clowns and a Brazilian Flameback angel. The rock towers in the middle are baserock which I cooked in an oven to kill off all the aiptasia. The towers int he corners are actually PVC fence posts modified to be removable overflows and covered with Spray foam. I then painted them with Krylon to river rock color. When they get encrusted with algae like the base rock towers, you can't tell the difference. As you can see the right tower is covered the left has been recently cleaned. Sorry about the images being blurry, I was avoiding the flash and taking the pics at night. I also have a faux sandbed which has been covered by green algae. But yes, you can keep two clown happily in a 20.

Thats my tank... 20 gallon long. I use a CPR BakPak2 skimmer, and its AMAZING. OTher than that... i use an Aqua Clear filter thats rated for 50 gallons, and i dont really do that many water changes to tell you the truth... and my clowns are healthy.

hey dogstar... creative mods! did you have to do some process to the foam to make it fish safe?

No the foam is just pond, handi foam and when It's cured, it's inert. The krylon paint has also been used successfully for several people to paint and submerge. I don't want to hijack the thread, but if you click my red house linking to my website, you can read all about it.

thanks guys and the tanks look awesome. hopefully i can get mine started soon. right now i'm just in the research and planning stage.

Good luck with the planning stage.

MrMex, I'm sorry, I failed to comment on how beautiful your tank is. Nice star. That's definately something I have yet to try on this small of a tank.
