20 years later I want to get back into saltwater.

Like the title says, it has been darn near 20 years since I have had a saltwater tank. I am wanting to have another go at it.
Man, a lot has changed!!
First tank was a fish only (aggressive) 55g while I was in the USMC. Last tank was a 90g mixed reef.
I am looking at a 75g Seapora(sp) from lfs for $75. Any thoughts on that brand?
40 breeder sump, perhaps smaller or maybe a Modular Marine sump.
Bean Animal...internal or external? Seems that the original design will skim the entire surface vs a series of holes flowing into an external. I like the aesthetics of the external, and in that vein it could be a pre made ghost type overflow, again Modular Marine, or DIY?
I really am starting all over again. I keep reading here on the forum and taking it all in. I find myself looking at the disease sub forum and learning a lot as well.
What is/are "typical" QT sizes? I might just leave it set up and running. Should I, could I leave some fish or CUC in there?
Sorry for the overwhelming intro thread but, like I said, it has been darn near 20 years ago since I have been in Saltwater Reef tanks.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I want to have a mixed reef with corals as well as inverts. The old 90g had an open brain, new, and a leather(I think...that was a loooong time ago).
I really like Coral Beauty's but it seems that they might wreak a bit of havoc with corals. I have been looking at clams as well.

I started out looking at 32g nano cubes then remembered more water volume has slower parameter change time, for the most part. Found the 75g for $75. Then started thinking about 125g and then...and then.
Sheesh
I think I will go with the 75g. Hey it could be a sump/fugue later on.

Semper Fi to you as well my brother.
My 55g was when I was at LeJune, actually living off base in Jacksonville.
I was stationed at LeJeune as well... lived on base..partied alot in Jacksonville lol

I was given the grand tour of LeJeune when I first arrived.. met the c.o. and all of the top brass... the base is named after my great great grandpa..

Wow! That sounds like quite the interesting story.
I was in from 1989-1983.
Me, basic in Pendleton, joined in Colorado, then to LeJeune. Stayed there the whole time. Saudi screwed up the rotation, and I didn't even go to Saudi. Hell, I did not even get to ply the MOS I trained for. Typical.

Lol yep I remember that.
Shoot it will take me till spring just to get the equipment up and running.

Yessir...

Being a Marine and all you sounded pretty gung ho (talking about clams already :) )...

Thank you for your service and happy reefing!

I was in 2000 to 2004.. and spent 2 of those years playing in the sand... parris island. To Geiger..to LeJeune..to afgan
I was an 0341 81 mm mortar... I never got to fire one shell over there from a mortar... but i was paired with my love "barret" for most of my tour...
I'll never forget what a .50 can do....

Well, clam would not be until much later. The lfs had a good sized specimen in a tank and it kinda caught my eye. All those years ago I never even thought about having a clam.
Then again I cycled my tank with Domino Damsels, as per status quo.
In actuality I am still trying to figure out mechanics, as well as stocking.
The mechanics are not as daunting as the stocking of the tank.
I work in Vectorworks (entertainment industry based CAD program). I am able to play in/on virtual paper long before drilling holes or cutting pvc, so drawings will be forthcoming.

My MOS was 1142 Electonic Equip Repaiman (fancy name for a guy that fixes electrical/electronic circuitry on big generators), then the top 4 of us in class got sent to a shop rebuilding starters, alternators, turbos, fuel injectors/pumps. The shop, at large, rebuilt engines, trannys, etc.., for every ground vehicle East of the Mississippi.
.50 cal...LOL, it took FOREVER for that round to hit that pile of junk, but boy oh boy did that wall locker jump high into the air!

BTW DMX - there is a 'Tank Journals and Builds' Forum...

There are a whole lot of people who would love to see the soup to nuts on your tank build...
