2007 meetings

Scott asked me as Grand Poobah Emeritus to help with arranging meetings in '07.

Obviously we can meet at members homes and local stores. To do that we need volunteers, feel free to post or email Scott or myself if you're willing to host a meeting.

Brian mentioned the meeting room at New College where they have in wall tanks. Anybody have connections at New College ?

I plan to contact the Tampa club about some joint meetings. Mote or the Florida Aquarium are possibilities.

There are some public aquariums that might be interesting. We've already seen the Selby library aquarium but the new members might be interested in learning the history and difficulties of installing that tank. Mote also maintains the airport tank without visible filtration. Might be interesting to see how that's set up. Or the chiclid tank for that matter could be interesting

We've gone seining in the bay and made argocrete rock, doesn't mean we can't do it again. Steve brought up snorkling and a picnic at Point of Rocks as a possible meeting, I like that idea.

Meetings have generally been held on weekends but I'd like to see some weekday evening meetings too. Not everyone is free on weekends. Back up north week day meetings weren't an issue (strictly posted to offend the true Floridians who don't care how we did it up north ;) ).

I'm looking for some support and ideas that can move this club to the next level.

We could definetly do a snorkle trip in the summer. I want to make some more rock-new tank to be added, so that could be a meeting. A seining trip would be good, the lined seahorse, Hippocampus erectus, are plentiful now and large, but they are mainly in deeper water in the bay. But I am sure we could seine some up. I have a seine, and I think someone else does right? Plus buckets and stuff. Maybe we should plan on that. I have wetsuits so we can go in this time of year and not get too cold, its 70 degrees in the Gulf, its warmer in the bay unless its a real cold day. We have been diving lately and I can do it all day, but Lynn starts getting cold after a couple tanks. But she has some areas in her wetsuit that allows water movement that mine doesnt have! Lets plan on a seining trip, if enough want to. we dont have to keep a lot of stuff, but I have found a lot of snails, and little fish, just looking on the rocks, and some of that is OK to put in tanks.

I think I have more insulation then all of you, and I think I will stay on shore with a cocktail to stay warm....BBBrrrrr.....But I will be there for moral support, and to wrap your freezing bodies in a blanket. Probably could start a fire in one of the BBq grills to help thaw you out. OK maybe it will warm up again soon, but the last 2 days have been down right cold for this Southern Boy...

Uhhh Steve, I'll join Scott on shore this time of year ;).

I'd like to get some home meeting planned a few months in advance so people can arrange their schedules.

Tampa is interested in some shared meetings, I'll keep you posted.

Id like to have a poker run where you go to different peoples houses to see their tank then all meet at a central location

In the midwest that meant driving snowmobiles from bar to bar, drinking beer and getting a card from each bar. Best poker hand at the last bar that was able to stand won. We might have trouble finding enough hosts or snowmobiles  .

Once we get bigger and more established I'd like to see something similar, without the snowmobiles. My previous club hosted a guest speaker and after the formal presentation we visted a half dozen different tanks and then went out to dinner.

Going to try to set up a joint meeting with the Tampa club at Mote late spring/early summer. Anybody have contacts there ?

Still haven't gotten any emails offering to host, they must all be going to Scott ;) .

We have a large seining net. No poles on it yet as it has never been used and still in the plastic bag. Also have a 20ft boat. Would wait till summer though. We would also have to wait as Katie's due date is May 2nd.

I talked with Chris and he said he would be interested in hosting a meeting. I believe we were going to try to get a member to host this months so it wouldnt be back to back LFS meetings..

Did he answer you back, and do you do that often?

;) Thats all I will say..
I just want to note that there has been a trend, that summer time is alot harder to organize meetings. SO if AA will do one that would be great. Does anyone want to host a meeting?? Speak up and it is yours....

I was asking Agu (RC Staff) if he talks to himself much.

I can gladly Host one any time. There is a lot of difference in the 65 since the last meeting I hosted.

I talked w/ my husband and he said we could host if needed.
Our house is about 10 mins from I-75 where 275 meets. Not sure if that is out of the way for a lot of you.
Only problem is if we have it at our place depending on the day we may have my 2 year old daughter unless our babysitter is free that evening. Also we have 2 cats & 1 dog so if anyone has allergies something to keep in mind.
