20g Long Questions

I'm new to the hobby and I have a 20 gallon long. Is a penguin biowheel 350 too much for the tank ? Also what can I do to the filter since it seems you're supposed to take out all the media and wheels that come with it.

Any other tips on what to get ?

the filter was half off at petsmart today so I didn't want to pass it up.

Honestly, I'd take that Biowheel back and get some cheap Powerhead's. Hang on the back filters like that really dont work all that well other then for holding media.

Water changes, Powerhead's, and a Skimmer and you'll be fine.

What's the alternative to a skimmer ? The only other tank i've had was a nano cube and that was over 5 years ago.

Could just do more waterchanges, but that costs more. Do you plan on using a good ammount of rock and sand?

If you keep up with weekly water changes you can get by w/o a skimmer.

I do weekly 20 percent changes on my small bioload LPS/softie 20G

and I also skim 24/7** with a ASM MiniG that pulls some gunk, and run purigen/carbon. So I'd say go with a skimmer, it will save you money in the long run. Seriously.
