20g SPS reef, need help along the way!

Ok, so I'm going to get an ASM mini g skimmer with a mag 3.5 return pump and a GH super nano overflow kit to kick it all off. I'll baffle the sump sometime this week. And post more pics. Next month I'll get an mp10 because I can't have any larger of an aquarium in my current apartment.

I reccomend the coralife ato setup. I have it and have been waiting years for it to die! I bought the floats and wring for my reefkeeper since I figured my ato wouldnt last but its just sat in a box for years...Also, the coralife comes with everything you need right out of the box pump and all. The only negative is that the pump is 12volt and has a specific pulg end on it so changing it out is harder than most others. I planned to use a cheap fountain pump and cutting the old plug end off and crimping it to the new pump wiring. This can be done safely since its only 12v. Best of all is that the whole system cost me like $70! It pumps at least 30" head(thats as far as I tried it).

So no more 75gal?

Thank you for the reply. I'll look into coralife ATO's. I don't think that the electrical work will be an issue.

The 75g will be on the back burner until I can move into a larger rent house and get a slight pay raise. I have a daughter being born in March, so most of my money right now is going to be dedicated to raising a baby and what little money I have right now, I am pouring into the tank.

I decided that I am going to just use what I got, as far as the overflow goes. GH is an awesome website - I checked it out thoroughly and if I had to drill a tank, I would definitely check them out again. However, I'm going to just use what I got for now and stick with the Eshopps nano overflow kit that I got.

I baffled the sump yesterday. It looks halfway decent for a DIY job. lol. The skimmer section in the 20g long is 13" x 11.75" and will be plenty big for any size skimmer that I ever want to have.

Instead of skimping on the skimmer with an ASM Mini G skimmer - I'm going all out and get an Octopus nwb 150, so that when I do upgrade to a 75g in the future, I will still have double the filtration power. There is someone else on here who has a 20g sps tank and is using an ASM G-2 rated for a 200g tank and it is skimming just fine. I figure going with an octopus nwb150 is not going to be going completely overboard.

I also decided that I am going to paint the bottom of the tank flat white and hopefully some coralline will grow over it. I am going to glue some GSP to the bottom of the tank and hope that it takes off growing. I'm not sure how well it will do in such a low nutrient tank. But, if it does take off, then that will be great. The only thing I will have to worry about is having it grow up the rocks to the SPS. I'm sure there's an easy way to control it though. Any objections?

Oh, and the MP10 is still in the works. I talked to my wife about it and I was telling her all the features to up-sell it and in her head it was making the proverbial "ka-ching" noise. She didn't necessarily flip out when I told her the price tag. I guess that's a good thing.

Updated equipment list:

Octopus NWB150 protein skimmer
Eshopps nano overflow kit (because I'm cheap and already have it)
Mag 3 return pump
MP10
20g long baffled sump
5g food grade plastic tote
ATO system - looking into Coralife
Algae scrubber (possibly in the future with a larger system)

Thanks for reading!
