well first of all id like to say its been really fun so far. finally getting to apply everything i spent months reading about is finally paying off. nitrates, nitrites and ammonia are zero and the hair algae in the front of my tank is slowly getting eaten, now there is only one little patch left in the corner. heres some pictures of my reef and some of its critters at 2 months including: 2 skunk clowns, 1 peppermint shrimp, 1 small unidentified anemone, 1 porcelain crab, 1 boxer crab, 6 turbo snails, 2 nassarius snails, 2 bumblebee snails, 2 blue hermit crabs, 2 red hermit crabs, 1 orange hermit crab.

Im pretty jealous of that coralline growth... my new tank is at 2 months and I just have little patches of pink and some purple on 2 out of the 6 rocks... did you buy it like that or did it grow? Do you use an accelerator?

i was just lucky with my LR. there are around 7 diffrent type of coralline that came on my LR. i havent added any accelerators or addatives, just water changes. the thin purple stuff grows the fastest by far, followed by this kind of purple and white bumpy coralline, third is this amazing fire truck red coraline. i would have to say the red stuff it my favorite by far. im always amazed when people say they when and picked up thier LR and is barren, i didnt even get to choose mine. it was just thrown together mail order from J&L aquatics. two sperate batches, both very nice quality rock, almost cured too. every week if i look around i find around 2-3 new hitch hikers.

updates! well tis' been about 3 months now so i thought some updated pictures and info would be nice. New additions: 2 Cleaner shrimp, 1 Firefish and 1 sixline wrasse. And if anyone could please help with the ID of my anemone would be great, it was called a beaded anemone in the store but the LFS guy didnt think it was one.

I am also jealous of your coraline. I just got my LR from eTrop, and there is one little purple spot and a green spot on the same rock. Every thing else is barren. I am hoping it will grow more though.

have you considered spaying the back of the tank with black paint? It would make all the colors stand out IMO plus good trick to hide the plumbing....great tank at 2 months...wish mine looked as good!

well i was just gunna let the coraline go crazy on the back of the tank to make it look more natural plus the pods will love the extra hiding places. plus nothing beats the colors of my coraline, shure a coat of black paint would hide the plumbing, but id rather wait for the purple, red, pink, and turquoise coraline to move in on its own. another reason i didnt spray paint it because my sump light is also my moonlight, so at night there is this really cool back lit effect through the rocks.
