20L tank build.

today i got a hydor flo deflector to add to my maxi-jet 1200. i hid it behind the overflow (sorta, i need to adjust it later). i really like the flow its giving. i may need to make adjustments tomorrow and take some pictures.

im having trouble getting flow down to the bottom to keep stuff from settling. once a week i siphon it all out but i need to figure something else out.

What is the SPS called in the picture above? Great job! And that light bulb for your refugium, what kind of bulb is it? I looked at homedepot for a bulb and I was looking for a 65k one, but none of the bulbs said 65k or any k's. All i saw was like 90w, 40w, 75w, etc.

I like it, it's really unique and different from most of the tanks we see around here. Did you ever do anything to address the possibility of the bottom cracking from the rocks?

absolutely nothing. i have my fingers crossed if that counts. im planning to build a new nicer stand for the tank, and while i transfer the tank to the new stand, i may also add starboard or just epoxy the rocks where they contact the glass. im not worried about rocks falling and breaking the glass, as i don't have any rocks stacked.

and thank you for saying my tank is different. i dont like all these biocubes and nanocubes floating around. they all look so much alike that you see one and you see them all.

i forget what the acro is called, i think it had "orchid" in the name. i have to ask the person i bought it from again about the name.

as for the bulbs, you have to look online and bring them the item number to order it. if they cant do that, then there are many sites online you can order from. my bulbs are nearly two years old, and dont seem to grow the chaeto anymore. they seem to grow cyanobacteria very well so i tossed my chaeto, cleaned my sump and turned off the lights. ill restart the refuge again when i get new lights.

i bought a hydor flo, corals seem to like it. still need to hide it behind my overflow better, but right now its fine.

most of my corals have lost even more color and continue to turn brown. what would be the issue with this? do i need to get my phosphates down? or is this nitrate related?

i got ahold of some tiny yet super strong magnets, so i made some frag holders with them. covered them in glue to seal them.

Nice, that overflow is starting to look really cool with algae growing on it, and your GSP. Like your red macro too. You mentioned a link to a video, but none of the images in your post seem to be links...

That DIY flow deflector is awesome! That looks like some RC car linkage or something? What is the geared-down motor from?

to see what motor i used, look for my thread on either RC or TCMAS.

TCMAS is an awesome group of people. i suppose ill meet you sometime in the future at one of the meetings. i don't go to many cuz i live in st. cloud. most of these corals in my tank are from other members.

What is this on the back wall? Looks like a tiny ricordea and what keeps it there?

its a frag of my micromussa, i super glued it to a tiny magnet i encased in glue. its a freaking strong magnet and it holds really well. i want to see the micromussa spread on the back of my tank. i have the main colony moved onto my rocks and i want it to spread there too.

took some pictures today. used parents camera, which isnt as good.

this one finally started to branch out for me.

i got this green sinularia to attach back here, now just gotta move my powerhead to make it look better.

here you can see the acro has encrusted the putty epoxy now, and i also fragged my micro colony again today.

i ordered a euroreef RS-80 for an upgrade and i bought a Iwasaki 15k bulb to see how it looks. in a few months i will start useing phosphate remover if the skimmer doesnt solve my algae problems.

One thing that I have noticed, is that colony of Zoas on the back wall that is placed there with Epoxy. I am concerned. There were some tanks in the past that cracked really bad when someone epoxied on the glass. The heat expansion caused stress in the glass and it ultimately fractured the glass and caused a major spill. You may want to watch out for that. I do like the micromussa on a magnet idea. That's sure to work great!

the epoxy has almost completely peeled away from the glass. im waiting till i buy a ton of magnets to redo it, or for the zoanthids to grow onto the glass. right now i dont really know how its still attached to the glass.

i believe you though, i had a heat lamp destroy the back of my tank due to the plastic rim warping.

FWIW, phosphate might not be your problem. I would test for it first because the run-of-the-mill phosphate removers are ineffective and RowaPhos, the best, is expensive.

what do you think of the phosphate remover on twopartsolution.com? i have been looking at this for some time now. right now im using a fluval brand of phosphate remover that i got free. i don't have any test kits for phosphate, other than algae growth.

To tell you the truth, I have no experience with phosphate removers. I'm just going with what I read in a very convincing article. But I am a firm believer in test kits. When I see my water parameters test bad then the algae comes back.
