20xL rimless reef

That's cool man, I was just talking to a buddy at work (I'm also an EE) about programming an audrino to use as an aquarium controller.

Time lapse of downtown Raleigh

My house is just a little bit to the right of this video. Where this thing went through is just terrible. There's trees down everywhere and power out in like half the city still. Power was only out for a few hours so I got extremely lucky. I think another two hours or two and it would have been a done deal. Tank pudding, so to speak.

No fish dead.
Lots of ****ed off ####.

The AC70 pump got lodged when my roommate was turning everything back on, which is run in parallel with my skimmer...so I had to leave those off all night. This means that all the pods and life in each died and I had to clean them when I got home. I did a large water change and am preparing another for tomorrow if necessary.

The large birdsnest completely died, but that was looking back before I left anyways.

The tank is a little angry right now after cleaning so many things up but I don't think it's going to be too devastating.

This is a couple miles from my place:

I've learned another valuable lesson. I should have bought that damn generator way before instead of assuming I could just go and buy one if I ever needed it. You can get them for $200 these days..but NOT the day of.

Anyways, Savannah was rad. There are no laws governing open containers there (like New Orleans and Las Vegas) so I asked for a lot of beers to go. Something about exploring a super old city while drinking beer really did it for me. I have been a number of times but this was the first that I absolutely loved.

After my roommate called about the restoration of power I bought a bottle of:

No, I don't feel good today.

Tank appears to be fine overall but I'll be watching tentatively.

That really sucks man. At least your place is ok. I know that a lot of people have died in the last few weeks from tornadoes. Tank pics look great though.

Things are still moving along slowly. The SPS are all gaining color again now that I'm back on Reef Crystals...which is surprising.

The tank will be 10 months old in two weeks.

The anthias and the remaining chromis will be moved to the 75g as soon as I can catch them without dismantling the whole reef. I tried today and was millimeters from snagging the chromis. I will eventually get them I just need to be ready to do a water change after the feeding required to get them to be totally comfortable with the net in the tank.

Pardon the cyano, it's from overfeeding the anthias. She's happy, healthy, and brilliantly colored.

The anthias will love the 75g since it's getting fed so often for the OSFF pair. I just hope she likes the man I get for her one day... :)

ENJOY THE VIDEO!

really nice tank, I enjoyed the video

Nice tank.

Wow super nice tank you should enter ntom soon

Thank you for the compliments...it's been really enjoyable watching things fill in but the coral battles are frustrating.

I was in the voting for NTOM a few months back and didn't receive nearly as many votes as some of the other more deserving candidates. My doesn't house very many delicate species but has done well other than a few minor setbacks.

I really do appreciate the comment though!

Ok.. gorgeous tank... do you run some carbon?.. how bout placing corals a bit diferent.. lps far away from sps?

Thanks! I run carbon that I change once a month and I have GFO in a TLF150 reactor sitting under the tank in a closed loop that I change every 3 months. I really don't have anywhere to put my euphyllia to keep them from stinging other corals other than where they already are. My big issue was keeping the softies from killing everything. If I tear the tank down I'll attempt to remove all the softies I can (sell those rocks).

so why are you taking this tank down in 10 months

I finish graduate school in December and will be looking for a house sometime in the beginning of the year. I will move all the livestock over to my 40B (currently a QT tank) and then drill this tank for a custom sump. I'll get rid of the koralia powerheds and get the MP10. I think that if I have the return from the Eheim 1250 on one side and that pump on the other I'd have adequate flow. I'd like to put an AquaMaxx cone skimmer in the sump area if there's room.

Well I haven't really taken pictures in a while because the cyano is pretty embarrasing but I figure I might as well document the tank regardless. I'm getting good growth though and everyone is happy....including the bacteria. I'm considering a little vodka dosing again if the problem continues.

This is the first time I came across your thread. I burst out laughing at the "ric stomping" comment near the beginning which made me want to read the whole thing instead of just looking at the pictures. Good work though it's starting to get pretty full!

Haha thank you very much.

That ric hasn't grown a centimeter...but also hasn't gotten any smaller so I can't complain about it too much.

Thanks a lot...it's definitely all filled up!

totally awsome. Great Job

Thanks Paul I really appreciate it!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the anthias and chromis were both removed and I've mostly conquered the cyano in the tank.

There is essentially no more left other than a single spot on the side of the tank that is almost never seen.

I am getting a few more very small SPS frags this weekend so hopefully I'll have some more updates soon.

Also, I've stopped using ESV 2-part and am only dosing Kalk via my ATO. Polyp extension is the best it has ever been, period!

The reef still lives! I finally finished graduate school in December and now I'm working like a dog...but all good things and I will certainly share the product with everyone here as soon as we are ready to go national. It's not aquarium related but it's still pretty cool.

Anyways, I feed too much because I love my fish and I only have been changing the water bi-weekly so that's the cause of some cyano. I also forgot to clean the glass...sorry!
