210 g leaking

I think that my 210 is leaking. Almost more than a month after the Napa earthquake and seeing my tank slosh from side to side, I'm seeing salt-creep coming up from the lower left. I think the tank itself is so heavy that it is holding back water between the sand, glass and plywood part of the stand. I think my days are numbered. :worried:

I don't think it is water splashed over the top by the fish, because there is no evidence of that on the front of the glass.

So what to do, ..., I'm thinking may be it is time to get a new tank that'll last and put everything into one those Rubbermaid stock tanks until the new tank arrives.

Any thoughts?

Its been awhile since the quake. Wouldn't the wood on the stand show some kind of water damage (cracks, warping, discoloration etc....). Also based on your top off's is more water being consumed than usual? I'd wipe everything down and literally pay attention. Again if salt creep is always forming and it never has in the past, then its safe to assume there is a leak. I'd start looking for a tank ASAP or go to a rubber maid. Last thing you want is a surprise.

Unfortunate news if true. Any chance it's trapped sloshed water from the quake slowly evaporating (water on the top of the stand, under the tank)?

+1 for looking for water damage to stand, and for evaluating amount of top off water being consumed.

Good advice Punchy.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not noticing any difference in the amount of water I add for evaporation. There's a slight discoloration underneath, but it is only on one side. If there is a crack I would expect the discoloration to extend from one side to the other.

Any ideas on getting the salt creep out. It's like it is filling the crack between the stand's lip and the tank which is less that 1/8th of an inch.

I mean if you see discoloring and an unusual amount of salt creep that would be cause for concern. Again its up to you and your assessment of what it can be.

Here is a picture. I can scrape off the top part, but I don't know how to get in between

If it's all dry and hard there probably isn't a leak there. I'd expect wet salt if there is any extra water around.

Time to get all MacGyver on it! Dental pick?

Well, I used glass paint scraper to clear off the top level salt creep and after the last cold spell the salt creep is back. So I think I have a very slow leak in the seal of the left front.

Crappy thing is after my heart surgery last week I can't lift more than 5 lbs for a first few weeks and full recovery is like 6 weeks.

I know I never showed up to any of the meetings, but would anybody be willing to help?

I'm on the east side of Petaluma in part called Cader's Highland. Sonoma Mountain Elementary school is just up the street. I'll PM address when I get a plan that works for people.

first, I'm trying to get a new large tank delivered and in the house. (truvu and fishtanksdirect will only deliver to the curb). some local stores will bring it in the house and that is preferable

Second, empty out the 210 in to Rubbermaid tubs, 45 and 38 on the sides will have to be moved as well.

3rd, move the old 210 out of the room (not sure what to do with it yet, might become the bearded dragon's new den)

4th, move the new tank into its place.

5th, put back live stock into new tank.

6th, figure out a reward for all the help

At this point, I don't know when.

That would suck to do by yourself. I'll help as long as I am without conflict on the chosen day.

Are the 45 and 38 also salt? Can they be slid out of the way, or do they need to be emptied, moved and refilled? Can their relocation happen ahead of "big tank move day"?

How much existing water and sand are you planning on using in the new tank?

How is your supply of buckets, hoses and pumps?

I have looked as far south as Dublin (Aquatic Concepts), and I think I'll go with them. They'll even deliver and bring it in the house. I'm not aware of any shipping limitations yet.

I'm thinking that it might be best to move all the live stock out first and try to get them to move the old tank out and then put the new one in that spot.

Can't do anything this weekend, because we have to volunteer at my kid's gymnastic event at REG (which is next to where JoFish was). I get to use a stop watch.

I have the following (some in use):
1 100g stock tank
1 55g Rubbermaid barrel
1 20g Rubbermaid barrel
5 5g buckets

I'd like to reuse everything and just do lots of water changes. However, this is bad time of year to make water (sediment block always turns brown quickly in like 2 weeks).

I have the BRS 150g, but found out I need a booster pump as the water pressure is only 58 psi and 60 psi when the backflow is attached.

Thanks, still in the process of acquiring a new tank. I have some quotes that have not been received yet. Once I figure out the logistics of that then I can make a more definitive plan.

I'm off the can't lift more than 5lbs, so last weekend I moved the tanks on the side of the 210 (quarantine and 45 hex). So I'm planning on moving the live stock out of the 210 into the other tanks. Pipefish and mandarin move from the 90 to the quarantine and the fish in the 210 will get distributed into 45, 90 for a little while.

The new tank is coming from TRUVU 225g(weighs 246lbs, not sure about the stand -- the glass 210 was ~400lbs really need 4 people to move that). Anyways, it goes into production end of this week and will be ready for ship 1 week later.

I'm not sure exactly, when it'll arrive as thanksgiving is the next week after that.

Would the club be interested in refurbishing my 210g? After selling it, all proceeds go to the club.

Please let me know if you are still willing to help move the 210g.

Thanks,
