210 Gallon New Setup

After almost 6 months of investigations, DIY setups and step by step introduction to the saltwater, finally there are some results to see.

Below you will find the mentioned steps and some pictures from the results. I know there are many more to do especially regarding the lighting which is an issue that I would like to hear about your comments and recommendations.

Dimensions of the tank is 73 x 26,5 x 26,5 inches and the sump is 55 x 17 x 16 inches.

At the beginning I was planning to have a bioball tower in the sump and accordingly designed my sump as shown in pictures below.

After a lot of discussions and readings about bioballs I have decided not to use them. The reason behind this is that I had a powerful PS and I was planning to use strong live rock backup in the tank. There are hundreds of topics in the web regarding the bioballs. Some recommends and some warns to stay away from them. So that was my choose and I have re-designed my sump as show below.

I have started fixing the acrylic parts to build-up my sump. To achieve a proper melding I have used the needles method to separate two acrylic pieces. Applied the chloroform between the pieces separated by the needle and after about 30 seconds waiting quickly removed the needles and fit the pieces together.

Here is some pictures from this process.

Since Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m not using a cooling unit I didnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t want to have an MH lighting. However it is for sure that the current lighting is not sufficient. Although I would very like to hear about your recommendation regarding the whole setup, especially the lighting recommendations will be highly appreciated.

Best regards,

The wood for the carrier construction is beech. Doors are coated MDF and the finishing is varnish.
