220/3 to 240/3

I currently have a 220/3 skimmer. Great skimmers bye the way. My question was can I upgrade the skimmer pump motor and cup ao its upgraded to the 240/3 specs? I recently upgraded my tank and I would like to keep the tunze I have now instead of buying another whole system. They are the same base correct?

Unfortunately the bases are different. The 240/3 has a different size foam riser in the bottom of the skimmer, a different cup, a different pump and a different neck design that holds the cup. This brings the cost of the upgrade to $340, while a new one is $505, I would recommend that if this is what you want to do you send it to me because the skimmer contains a baffle and sealed with silicon and it will have to be pryed apart and reassembled with the new top main casting. It will likely also take about 4-6 weeks to get in the parts- most of the cost is the pump which is essentially a 7400/2.

I am interested in upgrading my skimmer, but I cannot go 4-6weeks with out it. This is the delima. Um, do you you have any used ones we can swap or come to some kind of agreement? I want to stay with tunze, I love your product. I have the streams w/multi contr. and the osmo. wonderful craftsmanship!

Unfortunately I am at the mercy of the factory and I am out of 240/3 skimmers because of the skimmer bodies being out of stock. When they make more I could get some but I don't want to promise something I cannot deliver. It could be 2 weeks but if it takes longer I would rather have prepared you for such delay. Once they ship something it is here in less than a week usually. I seem to recall a customer of mine in Austin has a 240/2 but it would have the old cup and the old pump. I could check into that option. He is getting out of the hobby and seemed reluctant to part out the set up.

Thanks for your reply,

I understand on the waiting thing, which is no problem. Like I said before I like your product and want to stay w/tunze. I just cant really afford to fork out the money for a new 240/3, I spent allot on the equipment that i have now, which is why i was inquiring about a possible upgrade.

I am interested in possibly upgrading the one that your customer in Austin has. That would help me out. How much would i be looking at for this, and i understand you have to wait for a few weeks for the parts. Also, if we were able to do this, whould you know of anyone who would want to take the 220/3 off my hands? Its been well maintained.

I will find out more on the skimmer tomorrow. I would think you would do fairly well on eBay with the 220/3.

OK, the skimmer at AquaTek is a 240/3 that is about 2 years old. The customer wants $250 for it. The cup is $49.17 for the new design. I would also suggest letting me overhaul the entire unit, I'll basically refurb it to new, with all new motor parts for $40. This will include a new drive unit which is about $25 and a complete dissassembly and cleaning of the entire skimmer. If you want it, it is already on hold for you and I can have it ready for Wednsday.

No, it is already 50% off of new which seems very fair and it is cheaper than buying all the parts, it is in very good condition. I could try to get a picture tomorrow.

Alright I'll wait for the picture. Thats just more that I really want to pay right now. I'm going to need a chiller for this summer with the lighting I have now. I might just have to do more frequent water changes.

Rodger, another thing I was thinking was just upgrading to a 230/3, since I already have a 220/3. How much would this conversion cost?

It will cost about $250. The venturi, base, pump, and cup are all different. Just pump and venturi is $160. Look, if you want the 240/3 I'll eliminate my labor fee, that makes it $325. I'll try to remember to get a picture tomorrow. You have to understand I am cought between two customers and trying to make sure everyone gets out fair and I think for the condition of the unit the price is fair.

I understand completely. And I appreciate your compromise, but right now I just can afford it, maybe in the future you can upgrade my current unit.

Roger:

I might be interested in the 240 is it a /2 or a /3. I never heard back from you on the 230 so not sure if your e-mail is down.
