Looks like fun! Have you decided what you're doing about flow, filtration, substrate etc?
Still working on some of that stuff. The main focus right now is going to be with the benthic systems since I have completely run out of space for my current stock.
I sent up an account with the importer and can purchase very fine Bahamas oolithic aragonite sand by the ton. It is what I currently use in my systems.
I plan to design an up flow system as done in most public aquariums and will likely use a lager grade silica sand or stone for that. I still need to source it.
I've spoken to Doug at Aquaculture systems technologies and I am thinking about either the bubblebead with the nitrotech media or polygeyser. I currently use the Aqua UV ultima IIs on all of my current systems. I like the nitrification capabilities and the minimal waste when backwashing the bubble bead and polygeyser filters.
I have an RK2 skimmer, the giant SRO cone skimmer and will probably add another. I spoke with reeflo and unfortunately they have discontinued the needle wheel impellar that fits hammerhead pump. MRC makes real nice industrial skimmers but I had issues with the attitude of their sales staff and went with RK2.
I have been collecting pumps and have a mix (1/3 to 1 hp) of sweetwater, reeflo and rk2 waiting for use. Oxygen over flow is my biggest concern with the sharks and with the upflow design and little to no liverock, current is of less concern. I plan to use degassing towers and I am considering placing them outside for better exchange. It will also have a nice cooling effect. I hope to put supplemental pure oxygen with air diffusers on a DO controller if there is a temporary drop.
I have 1 1/2 HP of chiller plus I am going to place the temperate system directly on the concrete pad that sits about 10 feet below grade. I hoping that should keep me around 55-65 F.
Again - I am open to any ideas so please post. Right now I think the benthic tanks will be tile and acrylic like the photos below
