Hello everyone. I've been in the hobby for about 3 years, and currently have a 50 gallon tank. I've been in my current office now for about a year, and finally asked my boss if i could set up a fish tank here...and thankfully he said yes. Here's my question.

How doable is it to have a saltwater tank in my office? I will not have access to the office on the weekends, so i'm kind of scared as to how the tank will do over a weekend stint. I'm thinking of picking up the 12 or 24 nano cube, probably with the deluxe hood. I'm thinking it would probably be a tank housing 2 clowns, maybe some gobies, I would also like to get some shrimp in there...maybe some sexies.

Corals for the tank might be one or two sps, but I think i would keep it to some zoo's, and softies. I would definitely stay far far faaaaaaaaaaaaar away from xenia, as i have that in my main tank and it's a weed...would want to worry abou tthat in a small tank.

Let me know how many of you guys have office tanks, and how smoothly they operate.

Thanks in advance.

Marc

they make feeders than run on timers, for liquids and solid and flake and stuff, maybe get light timers and one of those, and your set!

I already have this going. Mine is just a standard 10g on my desk, with another standard 10g sump in the footwell of my desk. I have another desk, so I don't use that footwell anyway. I built my own overflow out of 1" pvc pipe. I built my own auto topoff from a float switch, an air pump, and a 1 gallon water jug. The fish and corals are always fine over weekends as long as your topoff hold out. I've been gone for as long as a week without adverse effects, I just add more water jugs inline for the auto topoff. My lights are on individual timers. All of my plumbing between the tanks is flexible, so I can move everything if I have to move offices (like next month when we're getting new furniture).

My biggest problem is getting RO/DI water in my office. My company doesn't provide bottled water, just drinking fountains with minimal filtering. I actually have to lug 10 1 gallon water bottles to the nearest supermarket and fill them up. Of course, I don't have to do 10 at once, but my tank uses around 2/3 of a gallon in topoff per day, so 10 lasts me around 2 weeks.
