240/3 Skimmer

Hi Roger,

My friend has me building him a sump and will be incorporating the 240/3 skimmer. I'd like to build him a stand in the sump to put the skimmer on, but don't know if a solid platform would interfere with the skimmer's intake / operations.

Water depth is 9"... what size stand would you recommend?

Hi Marc,

If it is solid at the bottom and doesn't wrap around the sides it is no problem. The stand ideally would be about 5.5- 6" tall. Try to allow for about 1" of adjustment capability. The 240/3 has changed in design and the new design is more powerful and some ability to raise it may be necessary.

You can purchase a stand for the skimmer for about 30 CAD which is good for about 6 in. of water. I then added a 2 in. platform under that which raised it to the right level and, with the stand, there is water movement beneath it.

Thanks Duncan, but as Roger knows, I work with acrylic and have a plenty to create the stand. I just needed to know the depth that was ideal for the skimmer so I can make it the right height.

No problem Mark. I just threw in the bit about the stand because its cantilever design allows water movement beneath the skimmer which I thought you might need to know. I guess I wasn't too clear in my post.

Good luck with it.
