With plans for a reef tank that will eventualy have 2-3 small fish in it(not sure if it matters), should I use the sponge filter media 100% of the time, or should I leave this up to the LR and LS to filter out the junk in a natural manner? And what about the surface skimmer that is included with the tank, should I use it or not?

The tank is a week into being cycled and as you can probly see, I'm new to this. Thanks for any help.

I use the sponge in chamber 1 and 2 that came with my nano cube. I took out the rings and carbon in the 2nd chamber and used live rock and chemi pure.

The surface skimmer is really effective.

"Chemi pure" what is this?

Just now I found a 3" redish worm with what looked to be fealers running down the length of its body. Looked similar to that of "blood worm" that is commonly used in recreational ocean fishing as bait. Any ideas as to species and if it is of any concern to my future reef? It hitched a ride on the LR.

Chemi pure is high grade carbon.

Yah that worm is probably a bristle worm, they're not good. Some are worse then others. I had some, bought myself a 6 line wrasse and he ate them.
