I got my paws on a 250 gallon tank, it needs some work but thats ok I'm going to need some advice as i go along. It is missing a piece of trim but it looks like it does nothing but look pretty or it did at one time. On a tank of this size does the trim do anything for the structure or is it held together just by the silicone? Is there a silicon that is made for these larger tanks or is it the same as what I have been using on my smaller tanks for years? The sand bed and filtration we are going with fowlr on this one my wife wants a humahuma and some larger angels than what we have in our 55g. How should I set that up or should it be on the same principal as my reef tanks? I have a lot of work to do I will post pics when I start the project it's foing to take some time I will have to do this as I can pay for it I know this is going to be expensive but I'm ready to do this.

The trim question could be a tricky one. I've got a glass cages 280. The trim on it is pretty well for ornament (but not even good at that;)). I ripped the bottom trim off moving it when I got it and so far no problems.

As for set up, FOWLR usually have a number of differences in set up. First off, you don't need much light, so you can generally go cheap there. You'll need more filtration IMO on a FOWLR. A UV sterilizer is not a bad idea and lots of water changes. Big fish eat big food and leave big waste;).

i just replaced my 90 gallon with a 150 and it was used..it looked like the previous owner cleaned the front glass with sand paper but i had a new piece of glass cut and replaced it my self...my trim was not one solid piece, its four pieces and i cant see anything it does as far as structure...the silicone i got from grainger in down town birmingham...its a rv 100 series and is some good stuff....hope this helps....

I may just rip the trim off it's 4 pieces not glued or connected in any way. Markie Mark what brand is that silicone? My son and I are going to build a cabinet stand and canopy floor to ceiling he's 13 so it's going to be a great learning experience and a load of fun. I measured the tank yesterday it's a 210 but thats fine. Now I need to find a used 75 to 125 for a sump any suggestion on size for this would be appreciated since I am in the planning phase I can build the stand to fit the sump. This is going to be a fowlr my wife has her pick on fish with my help she gave me orders last night she wants a clown trigger and a humahuma trigger will they be ok together is my question. I have never kept triggers before but I can handle it I just need to know if I can put them together.

my top trim is broke on the two center crossovers of my 210 gallon and it bows about
1/4" or less without vs. with. Good luck with the build. I wanted the same angels and preditors was building a wood tank front glass display might finish it one day looking forward to pictures of inspiration. I have a 72" 4 bulb t-5 light 2 plug so you could still do dusk dawn with night leds pm me if interested.
