250 watts too much for 24 gallon?

what kind of 250??? I would use it. I have always used too much light. My last bedroom tank was a 20 gall SPS with a 150 coral life... I HATED IT. I had terrible growth and corals were not as colorful than in my main system. However Coral life sucks.

I used to have a 250w on a 30g tall, and I was cleaning the glass everyday from unwanted excess algae growth. I now have a 150w 14k sunpod set up on a 30g bowed front and it is absolutly awesome! Go with the 150 forsure!!!

id go with the 250.. this way if you upgrade your tank you wont have to upgrade the light as well. i used a 250 on a 20L, and on a 29G thought it was perfect. great colors, great growth in both setups.

I have a 150w HQi by Jalli on my 20g, coul not be happier. i wouldn;t go with mor elight since some of my sps can't handel the top o my tank.

EZ, while algae does feed on nutrients, it also feeds on light. JME

of course they feed on light, but you have to also know that algae can grow with the smallest amount of light. a tank with 250 watts isn't going to have a noticeable increase in algae compared to a 150, they are both a lot of light for algae. in this case, the key is nutrients, (phosphates and nitrates.)

250w Sunpod over 25 gallons

250w Sunpod over 25 gallons

I've got a 24 inch Sunpod 250w DE HQI with blue and white LEDs over my 25 gallon tank (24x12x21). My temps run from 78.5 to 80.2 F. I set this up just a few months ago as primarily a SPS tank with a Torch coral and a small Zoa frag in the left corner for some diversity. All corals are doing very well and the SPS have shown amazing growth. I keep up with my weekly PWCs and have had no algae problems. I couldn't be happier.

I'm running two 175 w MH over my 28 gal bowfront. Temps stay below 80* with a clip on fan. I've got the Outer Orbit 24" w/150hqi over my 20xh and I wish I had more. SPS LOVE LIGHT!
