2500 Gal Tank Build.

Ya things get really unproportionable once you have to have a large custom tank made...

I have a standard 210gal fully equipped and only have $4k in it (not including livestock). *If all things were equal you should be able to get into a complete 600gal setup for $12k or a 1200gal for $24k; but "crazy" steps in and none of that holds true lol

I don't think you can realistically go from a 75g then jump to a 2500g. You need to become an expert before dropping $100k on a set up and maintaining a 75g just won't cut it IMO. Have you considered to cost of the upkeep alone on a tank that size? You'll spend a fortune in salt alone.

Start with the largest tank you can afford right now, you say money is no object for the 2500g so spend the money right now on a larger tank 210, 300 etc. I'd hate to see you drop that kind of coin to find out you don't LOVE the saltwater hobby. So first things first, set up a 210g and see how it goes.

I think this is good advice.

I have the feeling that once the 300 is set up and you see the time it takes to make it what you pictured in your head, and the problems you will face, and the time it will take to fix those issues with that 300, you may just rethink things a bit. Speaking from experience, when ANYTHING looked out of sorts in my 600, in any way, it consumed me. Ask anybody with a big tank who did all the work themselves...They know. You put so much time and effort into it only to have some unexpected issue come up. Even though you took EVERY known precaution, threw many many thousands of dollars at it, things will go wrong. I would suggest forget about the 2500 gallon and put all your focus on your 300.
Or this whole thing could just be made up and we all look like dummies for entertaining this thread. I hope I'm wrong, but it has happened. Do you have any pictures of the house your planning on doing this in? Because normally the homes these monster tanks are in are amazing and worth sharing here. It also gives others ideas to throw at you on your build project.

Start with a 120, then progress to a 300.. then you'll know if you want a 2500.

Brand doesnt matter.. At smaller thanks, you hear about ecotech, vertex, and so forth.. Large tank equipment is so specialized that you wouldn't use the same brands.

This is a 3 year old thread.. the guy hasn't been back since.. maybe in 2 more years he'll be posting about his 2500 gallon tank :D

and yeah.. $1,000 is about a budget for a 55 gallon or 75 gallon tank.. I'll be about $2500 in without lights already in my 300 gallon build with a used tank.. figure $5,000 for live stock and everything.. and ongoing costs..
