250W metal halide glass casing broken

I recently purchased a Coralife complete hood system (2 X 250W metal halide, 2 X 96W actinics). I noticed that the glass casing on one of the 250W metal halide bulbs that came with it had partially broken during shipping. I removed the damaged bulb, leaving socket empty for now while I wait for a replacement.

My question: Is it OK to still operate the hood system with just 1 bulb in place while I wait for a replacement bulb? Or should I just keep the hood off until I can install the new bulb? Thanks in advance.

if there on seprate ballasts i dont see why not...but if its a dual ballast im not sure if it will overdrive that one bulb...

It will not overdrive the bulb. It is fine to run it while you wait for the replacement bulb.

Thanks for the feedback.

The 2 MH's are on separate ballasts. I figured I could turn off the ballast for the socket with the broken bulb and just let the other one run for the time being.
