I am planing to get a larger tank and was wondering if 250w hqi w/ hamilton 14kis strong enough in a 48" long x 24"-30" wide x 30" deep tank? I have read that a 250w hqi will do clams and sps at 30", but how about Haddoni and other nems? Please let me know what you think or have done.
I am also thinking of 2- 250's or one 250 on a Light Rail.

Thanks,
Aaron:)

Def go with the 2x250w on a 48" tank. You will, no doubt, fill up the 48" with corals so a lite rail would have to go at some point.

However, now that I have had time to think, I'm not sure the 250w would do all you want it to at 30" depth. I have them at 24" depth and all is well. I had them on a 150g show (34") and had to move some things up a little. Maybe 400w would do you better?

Mount the light(s) on a rail above the tank that you can move side to side. You can cover whatever you want in the tank.

I'm not a fan.

I would think 2 250's would do it. You may have to move the clams and more light loving sps up a bit.
