i will be setting a 20L up as an sps only tank and was wanting to use the 250 since i have it already. will it be to much for a 12" tank? also will it have enough spread for a 30" tank? can anyone recommend a reflector that will help the spread of the light?
well i can say that i use a 250w on my 20gal without a chiller and works well. but i would not be able to tell you what type of reflector would work best.
I've used just a normal parabolic reflector and it covered a 20L just fine. If you can though, I'd get the PFO parallel reflector; it would definitely cover the 30 inch length.
I am pondering the same thing. I've heard mogul based bulbs and their reflectors will have better coverage. I'm thinking about the hamilton 14K and an icecap ballast. Is it worth the extra $100 for a lumenark?
Not for a 20L, IMO. The lumenarc is 19 x 19. It will give great coverage for a 30 inch tank, but also be hideous because it's way wider than a 20L. A pfo parallel will do the job just fine.
