Flow: (closed loop surge system goes 500gph then up to 30,000gph surges based on time of day out of 6 nozzles)

Ever since adding my storm drive, the fish really have seemed to hide constantly... even more so after I updgraded from T5 to 400W MH. I have gorgeous fish... that hide in a corner all day long. The SPS corals love my flow.

I tried adding a chromis school to encourage others to come out. no luck. I am thinking of getting an achilles tang again since they love high flow... atleast I'd have one fish for people to look at.

Any suggestions or tips on how to encourage the fish to leave their hiding place?

Oh, about 3 months on the lights atleast. The Surge device has been in operation around 10 months now I think. My tank experienced a catastrophic crash February 2009 where cold fresh water leaked into the tank and wiped out all corals and a few fishes. Ever since then, everyone has been hiding. Of course, I had an Achilles tang back then and very dense coral for cover.

Yeah, during storm mode at 30,000gph peaks, water splashes a bit out of the tank. I have acrylic covers to keep it from getting on the lights. Storm mode really kicks up all the detritus. Like I said, the coral really seem to love it... but I can't tell if the fish do or not yet.

do you like your corals or your fish better ? that should be your deciding point

Well, oddly enough, some of the fish do come out during the early morning before the lights are on. But not all of them. I don't understand why they all hide like this, is something wrong?

IMO water flow is one of the most important things when keeping fish healthy. If the fish are found in the surge zones on the reef than strong flow is a good idea. More flow equals more O2. As long as you aren't keeping fish that are found in slow moving water. Do your research. t
