26 sps lights and chiller

Hey everyone, I just got my new 26cube (20x20x20) up and running today. I am going to start a progress thread as soon as I can. I broke down my old sps tank and I have most of the equip. left. Here's what I had in mind: I will use a single 400w 14k in a horizontal pendant with an open top, and I will cool the water with a 1/4horse drop-in chiller. Both of which I already have. I am not too concerned with this amount of light because I ran the same thing before with excellent results, what concerns me is the size of the chiller. If I have the temp. differential set at 1deg, I think the temp will go up and down to quickly. What I mean is the light will heat the water up quickly, and due to the size of the chiller, it will cool the water very quickly as well. If the temp. differential is set at 2deg, the temp. swing would be too great in too short of a time period. Any suggestions? An option I will consider is a chiller trade with a 1/10 Arctica or ? I am trying to avoid having to buy new equipment...I mean I am trying to avoid a divorce! Waddya think?

Just a thought and probably not a good one. Maybe put the chiller on the same timer as your light? That way it would only come on with the light.

just add a sump to addmore water volume so the temp wont rise and dro pso fast? my .02

I am planning on putting an AC unit in my window rather than buying a chiller ... this will keep my room from heating up and both my fish and I cool I think it's cheaper as well!

I'm pretty sure those temp swings aren't too bad. Anyways, if you have the light in a pendant I'd imagine there wouldn't be too much heat anyways. Maybe a fan or two would keep in in check.

yeah the units compard to each other are cheaper but wait for the Srp bill those things such the juice like non other trust me on this one. It will cost you 10 fold in the end just do a jbj 1/20th nano chiller like $250

honestly i dont think a 400w is necessary. a 250 should be plenty even if you'll be keeping sps on the bottom. Unless you decide to go w/a 20K then maybe a 400 would be ok. I personally just feel like the extra wattage could be used for actinic supplementation.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I broke down and bought a 250 15K and Icecap ballast, and a Prime USA 1/10 chiller. havn't set them up yet though.
