265G Project

well lets see an update on this tank !!!!;)

There isn't much to report. I've been letting the tank do it's thing and taking things very slow..

Stock list so far:
Flame Angel
Royal Gramma
2 Cardials
3 Chromis
and four frags.

I'm battling a bit of H/A bloom. I got it partially under control, it's not going away but it's not growing anymore either.

I have been resting on my laurels, I have so many things I need to take care of on the tank. CA reactor isn't running yet, I bought some of those bio pellets, haven't got those plumbed in yet, carbon reactor isn't plumbed in yet. My Apex is half programmed, my auto top-off isn't complete yet. T5's aren't in yet. I have to build or have built a canopy. I need new bulbs.
You can't really tell from the picture but there are corals in there, small ones. The turbo snails killed two of my SPS frags by dumping them in the sand the first day I left on a business trip, when I got back they were mostly buried. The softies are growing well but the SPS aren't growing, they have decent color and polyp extension but aren't growing.

Even with the several important parts of the tank incomplete, the tank is actually very stable, all I'm doing it skimming ( pretty dry too ) and water changes with sub-par salt. I have no hair algae or cyano, I do get this fuzzy type of turf algae if I over feed for a few days in a row. If I cut down my feeding it goes away in a couple of days. Fish are all eating and healthy. So far I'm happy enough with the tank, once I get a few things taken care of I'm sure the SPS growth will come with it.

Looking good. You sure have patience...I only hope I have half as much. In the end, this will turn out to be a stellar tank!!

I'm not sure patience is the word I would use, lazy might be a better fit! :lmao:

It took me a good long time to get to this stage of the build that once I got water in it I think I burnt out on it for awhile and sold it as "letting the tank do it's thing."

I'm hoping it turns out to be a stellar tank one day, but I have a long way to go to get there.

This weekends project was to build a manifold to run my carbon / bio-pellet / Calc reactors. I was able to get it in and mounted to test it, I get great flow through all the reactors but I wasn't quite happy with how it looked so I took it back out to make a couple of mounting changes to it. The manifold is run off my return pump. The fuidized reactors are run off the manifold to the left, my calcium reactor supply and return in run off the long run to the right.

I should have some complete pictures in the next day or two.

Not much has changed in the last couple of months. I lost a couple of fish, not sure why but they are the only two fish I bought from one particular store.

Begun my battle against apestsia (sp) This is by far my biggest issue with having a 30" deep tank. I need to put my face in the tank or try to have my wife guide me for ones that are near the bottom of the tank.

Stock List:
Mimic Tang
Coral Beauty
Fisheri Angel
Four Chromis
Two Bangii Cardinals
Two Clowns

I suck at remembering the names of the corals in my tank so for the most part I won't even try. :lolspin:

Here's couple of pictures, the one giant apestsia is a pain in the rear to get too, but I need to kill it ASAP

Robb,
Have you tried the Peppermint Shrimp? Works great on the smaller ones, you'll have to still kill the large Aips.

To date I haven't tried them, speaking with my LFS they haven't had much success with the pepermint's eating them. I might give it a shot anyway.

They worked really well for me. Although it took about three weeks for them to start eating. I don't know if they needed to get accustomed to their new digs or what was happening. But after about three weeks they really went after the Aips. Now my problem is that I added a couple Flame Wrasses from Hawii and I think they ate all my shrimp. Always a challenge in this hobby.

Thanks, I also noticed that you are having have two 1" bulkheads are you teeing your return or using two return pumps ?

Jeff

Hey Jeff,

The return is tee'd I'm running a Dart for a return pump. The return pump does double duty it also supplies the manifold above to run my reactors.
