265G Project

Well I've decided to cut all the bracing off the tank and euro brace it. In the end it will be worth it to not have to light the tank through a brace.

Since you are re-doing your bracing, planned it with your lights so that your lights avoid the bracing.. :)

The counter tops went in today

The bottom of the tank sits 2.75" below the top of the counter top. One thing I always hated about my other tanks was that I could never clean right to the bottom of the glass with the mag-float without scratching the tank. This solves that problem and makes it look pretty cool.

Like the countersunk tank idea. Planning the same thing on my 220 for the same reason, that bottom edge is such a PITA to clean!

We are going to take this tank out and replace it. We have decided to go for a taller tank 84x24x?

About the only thing good about this whole thing is that I get to smash the thing and buy a new tank with the specs I want.. So I'll probably be asking for some design help in the future.

Are you going to go with eurobracing on the new tank too?

I will be, I'll be changing a few other things as well. It will be drilled for a closed loop and I may change the placement and sizes of the over flows etc. I have so research to do. :D

Heres the completed stand except for the door clips.

I still haven't ordered the tank to replace the one in the pictures so I have an empty tank to stare at for awhile :(

That tank is 30" - We are going to 36"

Yep it will be a pain to maintain, but if she isn't happy...............

I think it is going to look great!

Ideas on when you'll be getting the new tank?

Not at this time, I have the rest of the home renos to finish up first. I'm going to guess it will be three or four months before I get it ordered.

Well we have come to a crossroads of sorts, as some of you remember the glass brace on my 265 broke and that was followed up by the left hand pane cracking. The decision was made to replace the tank with a taller tank, around 36" or so. Well the quotes have come in for 36" glass and acrylic tanks. My wife and I have discussed the prices and neither one of thinks the extra 6" gained is worth the 300% increase in price over a standard 265 gallon Reef Ready tank. I'm going to take the day to think about it, but it looks like we will be going with a standard 265 gallon.

Good choice, but I'm prejudiced, because I have a standard glass 265.
