26g Rimless Build Thread

Ok I haven't done a build thread before but I may as well start with this project as practice for the 120g that will go in "sometime." :lmao:

Here's the stand that I overbuilt last month...just got the first coat of stain on today. You can see the tank that I had just sprayed a coat of Krylon on.

This will be in our bedroom. Originally the 10g sump was going to be in-stand, but after more thought, decided the pumps and skimmer would just be too loud...soooo it will drop directly into a 20Long in the basement.

We have Pergo, (laminate flooring), in our bedroom. I wasn't too jazzed about cutting a hole in it, since I just totally remodelled that room 2 yrs. ago, so I will just remove one plank, put aside, and drill my drain/return line through just the subfloor. When it's time to vacate these premises, I can simply replace the old plank.

So this is a fresh start on a new system...I hope to not make duplicate mistakes that I have on my other setups. Trying to be a sponge, and learning from all of you will certainly help! :frog:. Thx all!!!

More to come and thx for looking!

Ooops...I will tweak the size of the image on the rest. Sry!

And yes, the pink 4 wheeler and double-dolly-stroller are mine mine mine...that's how I roll!!!!!:lol2:

So this is the drain and return area.

The drain will drop straight down, approx. 7' into a 20g Long sump. How loud do you think this will be? I don't mind a bit of waterfall-ish noise, but no crazy gurgling. Will this be ok or should I tweak something or add something to muffle?

Stand is finished...moved stuff into bedroom and started to drill some holes in the floor to accommodate the drain/return.

I'm also going to run at least one new circuit. May use a remodel box and place outlets in wall or possibly install the outlets right in the stand itself.

Here's a pic of it where it will be.

Also, notice the drain/return compartment? I don't know if I will care to see this area...thoughts/ideas on whether or not I should paint that section black on the outside of tank?

Will that door swing and hit your stand, or worse the door knob into the tank? I assume its fine but the picture made me wonder.

The door knob misses the tank completely so no worries there. The door could hit the stand but 2 things will help there: A. the stand itself weighs approx. 100lbs lol and B. there's a slight hump in my laminate flooring that keeps the door from opening past 90 degrees :hmm5: I may install a simple doorstop to remedy it though. Thx for lookin!

Try some black laminate for the overflow area - can be easily removed just in case you want/ need to observe that area again in the future....and nice job so far! Any concern with electrical outlets in the stand? I assume GFCI will be used of course....

Black laminate? I.e?

Still not sure if I will have outlets in the stand...and mos' def' they would or at least the 1st one will be GFCI.

man justin you really do good wood work you should try and market some work for yourself. Or come over and help me with my framework haha. I love it

Ha! Thx Jeff...there are many "flaws" to this stand and I was close to pushing it aside and starting over but Jen said that's "not happening!" The thing weighs a ton and is overbuilt...from now on any stand I build for a smaller tank such as this one, will be solely 3/4" ply.
