26g Rimless Build Thread

I used to find plastic/ vinyl laminate at the craft store, and it has an adhesive on one side - peel and stick, although you would probably want to squeeze the air bubbles out, sort of like window tint (which is another option really, at least the darker stuff...).

Looking great so far. Did you decide how you'll light it? You can find black window tint in the Automotive section of WalMart, it'll work great on the overflow corner.

What about using some of the Krylon Fusion I have and spraying that drainpipe black? I still may use the contact paper or tinting but painting the drain is something I can do like, NOW! lol

Primarily I'm confirming that this is fine to have submerged in tank after it cures.

You know, I was actually thinking just painting the drainpipe would work too (great minds think alike and all...) - I say try it!

hmmm....i'm wondering how long that would last....i think about lawn furniture being exposed to the elements and how that stuff starts to peel off...wouldn't it be worse submerged in saltwater? and contact paper is scary. what's in the adhesive that might leech out?

Yo! Just getting into this thread a little late in the game but, as for that overflow, cut a piece of black acrylic and stick it on with velcro. This way you don't have to see the drain/return but you can always take it off if you need to.

love yaeger.

Well, certain paints cure quite well without leaching anything after they are dry, but it definitely would depend on the paint. The idea with vinyl adhesive or window tint is to apply it to the outside - no direct contact with the water. The acrylic idea would work too though...
