yea i got bored hahaha just threw together a really small tank, im trying to think what i can use for a light on it. i will be keeping aptisia in it i figured it would be pretty neat and differant cause they are pretty nice looking but they crap out everything in a normal tank so why not make them a tank? my lfs has an aptisia tank and its really nice looking just swaying little brown tenticle all over. im pretty sure they wont have a problem giving me some haha.

i'll be making the sump tonight lol.

Yeah my LFS has an aiptasia tank to but it aint supossed to be!:D
cool tank you got there my freind why not try Led for lighting?
tagging along.

i was thinking about the flash light but its not bright at all.

i dont really know how to do leds. any one know and feel like explaining it to me?

in that small of a tank i really wonder how many LEDs would be needed. You could probably just buy one of those replacement LED bulbs for standard screw fixtures and use it. I cant find any right now but i think they'r from best hong kong?

Awesome tank, i love when they'r insanely small.

Would this light be over kill:

http://www.aquariumguys.com/dragonfly.html

I have one on my refugium and it works great.

haha it like that exact dementions for the tank lol. it would be like an oven in there. but thank you for the though! its really nice of people to take time to check somthing out that goes to everyone.

taam rio makes a clip on LED light specifically for smaller tanks like yours. it has 10 LEDs and its on www.marinedepot.com for $30.00

ive never seen one in person, or one running, but its not like aptasia are demanding, and $30.00 for a "reef" light is a god-send

i'd say check that out. they have three different models on marinedepot

let us know what you choose to do! i think the tank sounds really interesting and unique

You could build a canopy and use one of those little 10w screw-in compact fluorescent bulbs.

Or 400w MH.

400watt MH:lol:   i was thinking of useing one of thows 10 watt bulbs it would take the hole tank thow i need somthing compact real small the tank runs about 6x2.5 inches

im telling you, buddy, at least give that 10-bulb LED i mentioned a look. it clips on the back of the tank, and although they dont give dimensions, its five rows of two LED's, and that it. so that cant be any bigger, than, i dont know... a cigarette lighter? maybe even as small as a AA battery?

i really think it would do perfect on your tank. im gonna be setting up a 3.5 pico, and that comes with i think a 9 watt power compact, but now that i found these LED's, ill prob just get one or two of them.

PS i swear im not a sales rep for rio, i just think it is the right choice!

i think im going to try the day light and deep sea blue LEDfrom marine depot when i get it i'll let everyone know how it is

Be careful with LEDs as some of them are not the right Kelvin. Just search online for LEDs and saltwater aquariums (that's what I did.) There's some great info out there on building your own if you're into electrical stuff. If you're not into electrical stuff, you can take an LED and attach it with electrical tape to a watch battery (add a magnet and you can make some pretty cool LED grafitti...lol.) If you need bulk LEDs, go to some of the electrical suppliers online. I'd list the suppliers, but I think it's against the commercial policies.

I would definitely NOT go with anything other than LEDs. I'm currently running two picos (and they're nowhere near as small as yours...2 & 3 gallons). The evaporation rate with any other lights will cause your salinity to spike waaaay too high.

I helped a friend set his pico up, and he didn't top off the water one day. The next day, all of his corals were near death. The salinity was so high that it was off the scale. Just be careful.
