And to think I was afraid to post because of all the "mean" responses I've seen on other threads.

Never be afraid to post... there are plenty of folks here that are more than willing to help. Most of the "mean" posts are from uninformed folks or those that dislike informed folks :)

Every day is a school day for me so I pass it on when I can :)
Yup... some of us live to learn and pass on what we can. Not that you have ever taught me anything James ;)

as you all can imagine izzy will be keeping his vat at an unusually high temp because he is great at getting himself into hot water

I've read alot of threads on RC, but by far, the nicest people, and the ones with the most personality, are in the DIY forum. You peeps are crazy....and I love it....

Hey Horkn, what model mustangs do you like: fox body, mach III, which one?

Just curious, I'm rolling a fox body convertiable. Five OH, ofcourse...

izzy

I think us DIYers are funny from all the glue and chemicals we use to DIY :P

actually i roll in a 92 fox body silver lx 5.0 with factory white leather interior . I like it, have had it for 5 years, and is my second 5.0 fox body. my first was a red 87 lx 5.0 hatch that was absolutely mint. I had it painted in 99 in the performance red color (orangy red) and had a host of goodies on it. i miss that car. my current fox doesn't give me the warm fuzzies like my old 87 did. maybe its because i am so into sprotbikes now. I dunno... my current sportbike does low 10 second quarter miles with minimal mods, and is a blast in the twisties or on track days at roadcourses.

I like all mustangs though. minus mustang II's ;)
maybe in the future I will buy an 05+ gt and have a fun car again after i sell my 92 vert this summer.

A client of mine just got a brand new GT 500... Nice, but I am not at all impressed for the price.

Anyway, how is the "vat" coming... why in the world are we calling this tank a vat anyway?

I call it a vat becuase that's what the guys called it at the store who had it before me! LOL Silly isn't it!

I still need to get out side and DRY LOCK the cinder blocks, and I've been a bit lazy as far as that goes.

I spent an hour and ten minutes on the phone with Paul (the designer of Oceans Motions). I called earlier today and he returned my call promptly, and not only fixed my Oceans Motions 4 way, BUT helped me figure out the flow that was best for my set up. A really nice guy, and very inteligent. I highly recomend his products. I picked up mine second hand, and he still spent all that time helping me. He stepped up, and showed integrity and pride in what he does.

I'm still looking for ideas on a canopy, any ideas? I can't hang it from the ceiling, but I want it above the tank. I thinking of attaching it like a day bed. That way you can look down OVER the corals.

I'm hoping to do those cinder blocks tomm.

Hey Horkn, you should roll down to Bristol, TN sometime, Thunder Valley (behind Bristol Motor Speedway) has Street Fights on Tuesdays and Thursdays and you can race anything with wheels. Its a blast. What happened to your '87?

Bean, I caught a glimpse of the new GT 500, and it's awesome, but before I get one of those, I have to pick up THE ring! She's the one for me (the girl in the pic)! And I'll get thrown out if I don't! Not that I have the money for a car like that anyway....

Want to hear the funny part...

The car has less than 100 miles on it and is sitting in a warehouse that is under construction... there is literaly so much dust on it that you can barely tell what it is! I will be going back down to the site next week and will get a picture or two.

You won't believe it, but today Jason and I Dry Locked all the cinder blocks. Planning on setting it up Sunday evening, canopy Monday, and a fresh water run by Wednesday.

Hopefully. Pics by monday.

actually I got a speeding ticket in said 87 5.0 somewhere near chattanooga while on spring break in 99. i was beating some orange striped white camaro SS (stock 96 IIRC SS)out of traffic, and a cop just happened to be a witness.

the 87, well i had ~300hp in it and major suspension mods were literally next paycheck, and in 2002 ( i had the 87 for like 8 years) a blue hair decided to stop for no reason in the middle lane of the freeway. i swerved left to get into the left lane, and the rear end swung out just a bit to the left as well, and i was never quite able to get control of the rear end of the car. I spun into the divider which was basically only a grass ditch. A grass ditch with wire cables in it... DOH. the car was driveable, but every panel was cable damaged, even the roof as one of the 3 cables rolled over the roof.
had I put the susp mods on (max motorsports) I bet the rear end would have stayed in line:(
oh well, i was ok, but the car had just enough damage to be a write off.

I have yet to get to deals gap on my bike, so if thats anywhere near bristol, its a possibility. others with the same bike as mine and same mods do very low 10 second times at 140mph, but as I am sure you know, launching a street bike for a fast and quick drag run is a learned method

we have a local 1/4 mile track called Great Lakes Dragaway about an hour away, just never been there on the bike. I prefer the 4 mile road course called Road America, and have been there several times on my bike. thats good clean fun. 170mph legally;)

as far as the new gt500, as far as $$ goes, its the BEST bang for your buck in 500hp cars. 43k loaded for a hardtop is a steal vs 80-90k vipers and the 70-80k super vette.

or just buy a 25k gt and make it 500-600 hp for less $$.. thats what I would do....

He spent 40k for a rare car and he didnt buy a cover???

:hmm3:

Of all the luck....!!

We had a reef club meeting tonight, and I ended up with another 5000 GPH pump! There's a guy in my reef club who breads clown fish as a buisness. He's really good at it. I'll have to post his info (if that's cool with him). I'm picking it up on Tuesday!

Hey Izzy, sorry I didn't reply earlier. Lost your thread for a few days there. To answer your question, unfortunately not my Ceph, I have a good friend who's a marine biologist and he found it while doing some research project.

Since, everybody seems to be ignoring your hood plans;) , I guess I'll try to help you out. Are you going to skin the bottom or is it going to be just cinder blocks? And did you mean day bed or four poster? I think a four poster style canopy would be pretty sweet. You could make some good looking L-shaped corner pieces for pretty cheap. Bring them all the way up from the floor, and just make them 2-3" wide. It would also have the effect of framing in the tank, not to mention it would hide algae that tends to collect in the corners where it's hard to scrape off.

As for space between the top of the tank and the canopy, I don't know if you'd want to have a permanent space there. I would think it could get kind of annoying at times with light always spilling out. But I'm a fan of doors that hinge at the top and lift up and out of the way, instead of the cabinet style doors. If you did it like that you could still easily flip open a door for top down viewing (as long as the overall canopy was tall enough).

I was thinking about the light issue as well..but I think I can build some wooden flanges with 45 degree angles that could block the light from spilling out too much.

I'm not sure what a poster style bed is, but I'm going to look for it now.

here is a 4 post bed.

this way you could elevate the canopy and lights, and not hang anything.

Yeah, like the pic horkn linked. Posts from the floor to the top of the canopy, corners of the tank covered by the four posts (to frame it in), then a little space (if that's what you want), then canopy on top.

I know what a day bed is, but I don't understand how that would translate to a canopy. Care to explain?

Yup, Paul and his wife are first class. You will not find customer service like that very often. They make a top notch product and treat all customers like they are their only customer.

horkn... no cover. I used to run a 68 Camaro (roomates) that was primer gray and had somewhere in the ballpark of 850 hp (before juice). Spent a good portion of my youth (not that I am old!) on bikes and had a good friend who raced Superbike for a while... you have not had your eyes peeled back until you dropped the clutch on an old RC30, let alone going for a spin on a 500cc 2-troke GP bike. Even better was taking that RC30 out on the stree... ohh wait it wasn't street legal, we never did that!

As for the canopy, 4 posts and a pulley system would work. You could also build a traditional hood type system using aluminum tubing. Linear actuators could raise the front for maintenance.
