I have a 29 gallon (30 x 12 x 18) that has been running for 3 months. Right now I have a cleaner shrimp and a few corals (leather, zoas, a few easy sps). I will be adding fish in late October/early November (after I get back from 2 weeks in Hawaii). I have been trying to narrow down the list of potential fish. I am trying for three fish but since the tank is small I am having some difficulty.

I have narrowed it down to:

1 small fairy/flasher wrasse
1 small blenny
1 other fish

For the other fish I was originally thinking of a small clownfish (percula or pink skunk) but I am not sold on it. I am also thinking of a royal gramma or an orchid dottyback.

I am looking for suggestions for my last fish preferable one that likes to hang out in the middle or upper half of the tank. Thanks.
 
green chromis are cool and hang all over the tank. 3 should be perfect for a 29g. they school, and when the light hits their (irredescent) sides they change colors. size: will not get much more than 3-4"max. REEF-ON!!!
 
I don’t think I want a small school of chromis. I have plenty of schooling fish in my 75 freshwater tank.

I am debating between a bicolor blenny, red sea mimic blenny or a canary blenny. Then a small fairy wrasse. And the third fish is still undecided.
 
For the most part blue green chromis will do poorly as a small group in a smaller aquarium. One will be come dominent and kill the other 2 or form a pair and kill the 3rd wheel. They are damsels after all. IME clowns can become a terror in smaller reefs. Again this is a damsel species and they will attempt to defend their territory, which will include the entire 29 gallon.
 
That’s why I wanted to avoid damsels. Any suggestions for a third fish? I really like the orchid dottyback but I heard that dottybacks are aggressive.
 
I am thinking about a pair of High Fin Red Banded Gobies (Stonogobiops nematode). Would those go well with the wrasse and blenny?
 
I have a McCoskers flasher, royal gramma and a possum wrasse in my 29g. The gramma chasses the possum occasionally when he comes into his territory. The flasher doesn't get picked on at all.

I had a oscellaris clown for approx 3 years. When small he was great but over the last year became very territorial. I never saw my gramma except when feeding. I traded to a friend and the gramma swims out all the time now. BTW, the clown would attack my hand repeatedly when in the tank.
 
Thanks for the inputs. I do like royal grammas but I don't know how well they will get along with fairy wrasses.

i didnt want these in my 180 (i have gobies, shrimps, and "hosting corals") so i added them to the 29. so far so good :)

you could easily do a pair of clowns (with anemone) and 2 more small fish. blenny and goby maybe.. what about a firefish?
