29gal Nano startup. Tank Parameters

Years back I had a 110gal.
Sold it when we moved.
Kept some of the hardware items.

Started up a 29gal cube for the kids.

Water us RODI
1/2 if the sand was from the guy I bought the tank from
other 1/2 was from storage of old tank
Rock us dead rock from BRS.

Tank is now running 2 weeks.
I am showing some brown stuff on sand and rocks.
No green algae
Had some old testing chemicals. Nitrate, Ammonia showed nothing.

Pinpoint Salinity 54.00mS

Octopus 3000 (still works!)
ORP 306mv
Temp 76.5F
Conductivity 92.5mv
pH 5.93. Probe is probably bad, I have a newer one I need to unbox and calubrate.

Do I need to calibrate any of the other probes?

You probably need all new probes I'd they're from an octopus 3000 system. That must be maybe 10+ years old?

The standalone salinity should be fine, but pH, orp and not sure about the salinity probe should all be replaced annually or every other year if you're feeling lucky and it's not hooked up to a system-critical component (calcium reactor)

You can use the octopus if it still works, but I'd replace all of the probes andbbuy some calibration solution for the new probes.

I placed the probes in fresh water to see if they responded.
They all responded except for conductivity.
I had a new conductivity probe, no change either.
In fact when i have the probe unlplugged the conductivity does not change.
I think the Octopus 3000 has its days numbered.

Not sure I agree on the conductivity probe replacement on an annual basis.
So these pinpoint meters people have and use are junk after a year?

pH probe I understand, and stand alone meters always have an option for replacement.

I am not seeing much options for insteon or Zwave for temp sensor.
I would just want a temp sensor to kill lights and heater if it hit a hot temp threshold.
Otherwise, I don't need much for control.

Took a water sample to LFS. Said Nitrite was high and salinity low. My pinpoint measures 53.

Think My octopus is dead. Temp wont change when I immerse in ice water

I added some of this de-nitrate to the back of my tank.
I re-checked my nitrate and it is showing in the 40 level? Verses the maxed out scale.
This was only in for a few days.

Is this even possible?
Or do I have something with my kit I am doing wrong?

Nitrates are not showing anything anymore.
Still have not done a water change, working on my mixing tank.

New heater is installed and temp is level.

I am ready for the clean-up crew?
